    Wiring issues

    Hello, all
I have a question regarding my 96 Skeeter ZX180 and its wiring.

I have gone completely through my Skeeter, cleaning, inspecting and repairing as needed.
I pulled my 9601 Perko basic disconnect switch and cleaned all of my terminal ends. Had to replace the starting battery. In disconnecting wires and p
ulling out all the batteries and the Perko, I have stupidly lost the wiring diagram involving the starter battery, house wiring and PERKO.

That leaves me with two questions.
    1. I don't remember taking the ground of the battery off of the motor. Frankly speaking I don't remember where I got the end from?!
    2. From the images, you can see the two bundles of connectors, one with two fused red lines, I am unsure which connects to which post of the Perko?! From the second image, it appears as though both heavily black line runs to the motor.
I suppose I could pull the engine cover for the and trace the wires to the motor and see which is positive and negative.

It suddenly dawned on me, the bundle with the two fuses will attach to the common post along with the red battery cable directly from the battery, to be NON-SWITCHED The other, non-fused bundle connects to the positive terminal of the Perko, no?
I still don't know where the non-battery end of the black candle attaches?!
I have looked all over the battery compartment and find no other connectors or posts for the negative starter battery cable!!

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanx
    Alan Brown

This is an excellent diagram! Thank you very much for it. The Perko switch in the diagram is not the 9601 that I am using. It is a two pole simple on and off switch for one battery only?

The primary problem is that I don't know what the starter battery negative cable was attached to which would give a common ground for the boat. I have looked high and low for a connection within the reach of the ground cable and find nothing but the Perko switch.

Again, that you for your assistance.

Your Perko Switch is just an ON/OFF switch. Attach the wires leading to all your house items, anything except the Motor and the AUTO-BILGE PUMP. to the ON connection on the Switch. Then attach a wire from the POS post on the battery to the other connection on the switch. If you're running your graphs on a designated wire, you should get another switch and attach them to it in the same way.

Negative does not go to the Perko. It stays connected to the battery.

Mitch, why is another switch needed for your graphs on a designated wire. My graph wiring harness is connected to my battery switch along with the other boat wiring. Seems to work fine. Thanks for your input.

You can do it that way too. I have my graphs direct from the battery to a Blue Seas Fuse Block in the front locker with them switched at the rear.

Thank you for the feedback. It was what I needed. The doggone posts on the bottom of the perko are labeled COMMON and the other has some cryptic stuff by it. To me, a common is the common GROUND!!
Now that I understand it is the common positive source,( or house battery) it begins to make sense.
In fact, I was able to connect all of the bundled ground leads directly to the negative battery post which WORKS!! The entire time I have been looking for a common ground for the boat. I had an extra black battery ground wire and kept looking for a place to connect it to that would give the boat a common ground. I could not find a common ground anywhere in the boat, especially in the battery compartment.
I traced the two bundles back into the motor and tested with an ohmmeter what I thought was positive and negative.
When I connected the motor's negative battery wire directly to the battery, it had two other smaller black wires bundled to it. These two wires could be traced to the front where the power center controls are. Those two smaller black wires turned out to be the entire boats common ground wires!!
Apparently, the extra heavy black negative wire is just that, an extra wire which I am unsure even came from!?!?
Once again, thanks for the help and to everyone else that added input to the conundrum!!

Screenshot_2023-05-24-13-08-46-17_965bbf4d18d205f782c6b8409c5773a4 (1).jpg As you can see from this picture. The two smaller black wires are in the sheath that is running to the front of the boat and the heavier black lime goes directly to the engine. The thing that concerns me a bit, is that the perko does not easily mount where it did prior to me removing everything from the battery compartment. The lengths of the wires appear shorter, but I DON'T SEE ANY OTHER WAY to connect everything, so it works.
In any event, I decided to pull the gas tank to access and thoroughly clean the bilge. Easy peasey. NOT. The dang gas tank is 3/8's of an inch longer that the darn opening in the boat!!!
