    Drop Shot modifications

I am NOT a drop shot fisherman. As a matter of fact I have never fished a drop shot rig.
Its not that I have anything against it, but I still have all of the traditional techniques to master

With that said, I was watching one of Rowland Martins weekly infomercials, when I had a thought about this rig.

Rowland was on Alto in Mexico and his partner was fishing a drop shot rig.
We all know that a "traditional" rig is 6-8 lb line, #6 hook with a finess worm.

Well, apparently Rowland thinks of it differently!
He mentioned that they were "finese" fishing, and had to be careful when fighting the fish. Then he described the rig:

    12 lb line
    6/0 hook
    "small" worm....5"-6" Senko

Really... he described this as a finess rig, so I guess its all in the eye of the beholder.

Then, I thought, why limit it to line, hook and lure size? Add other options.

    So, finally the question::::::

Has of you replaced the "weight" with a lure?

Instead of dragging a lead wieght, couldnt it be a 1/4 oz(or whatever) jig??
    Or a tube?
    Or even a shakey head?

I know it might not be productive in grassy areas, but around wood, rocks, or a clean bottom?

    Your thoughts??

Depending where I'm fishing I will put a really small brown/tan jig on for a weight around sandy areas.Have never had any luck with it around other areas.I don't know about all states but in Michigan it was against the law to fish like that with a 2 hook system.I don't know if it still is or not thou.

    Re: Drop Shot modifications (cowtrimmer)

The guys at Roboworm told me to try a drop shot with beefier line, hook, and tackle and throw it in places where tradiotionally a T-rig is thrown. Pretty good tip and its effective from 6"-100ft of water. A lot of very shallow fish have not seen a presentation like this. You'll lose some tackle from hang ups and stuff but the rewrd is worth it.

I saw an article on this. People were using Lyndy Rig no-snags and pulling them through everything.

You can use a drop shot rig with a tube for the weight..Works great on smallies when you start picking up followers.
Use braided with a flouro leader..helps to limit line twist and increases the sensitivity.
As far as michigan dropshotting, it is now legal as of last season..
