Drag delete
I’m tired of drag washers slipping, went to carbon fiber and no grease. Still eventually slips.
anyone have a idea how to permanently lock drag for punching and frogging? Thx

I guess you could epoxy or solder/weld the drag stack. One could be made from scratch by a manufacturer pretty easily.
Piece could be made that serves as a spacer and engauges the keys on the shaft and main gear but that is probably beyond what an end user or hobbyists can feasible do.

What kind of reel are you having a problem with?

I had heard the drag slipping on those was a common problem. Is there a fix other than just locking it down and fusing it for punching, so it doesn’t happen during other techniques?

No grease is your problem. Dan

With grease or without still slips. Tried it both ways. Eventually it will slip at worse time.

1st, MET MGL is not the optimum platform for “punching” to begin with, this is a performance based reel. 2nd there are so many variables in “drag slip” it’s nearly a science these days. Size of A and B washers, type, grease used etc etc. my MET drags lock but not with 65/80 pound braid in “close distance apps”. My advice is look at a Tranx 150/200 if you want a dedicated “punch reel” . Bantam MGL is also an option but the gearing and drag in the Tranx is bullet proof. Magnesium frames whether MET or other just flex too much under extreme load and spools can suffer as well as the light weight spools can stretch side to side from same extreme load. Again Tranx is a heavier walled spool and will not do that. Movement whether spool or frame or both causes premature and accelerated gear wear as well. Dan
