rattlebacks do it for me,trim the weed guard at an angle and thin out the skirt.

Daves Tournament tackle King Sling. I can pitch it in anything with minimal hang ups.

I will second the Lunker Lures "Rattle-Backs". They also make double & Tripple Rattlebacks. The latter are awesome in heavily stained water. They are affordable too.![]()

I like the Jewel flippin jig.
my favorite is the berkley power jig![]()
I agree with Daves Tournament Tackle King Sling, comes through cover very well.![]()
Might want to take a look at Conquest Jigs.
For working thick brush, you need a good bullet shaped head, and a good weedguard. I prefer a wire guard over mono, but they are hard to find.
Best ones I ever found were custom made by a guy who I believe lived in Michigan if I remember correctly. His name was Ralph Storey and he made a jig called the Bass Browser which was the most incredible jig I ever tried. I purchased a few from him, and tested them around my house in every type of brush and shrubbery I could find and coule not get them hung, not even in a rose bush.
His website is down now, and has been for sometime. He told me the last time I ordered he was going to stop making the jigs except for a few he would use himself, but maybe if you called him he would send you a few.
His number is (517) 694-0309. I wish I could at least find an old photo to show you the design on his weedguard. Incredible and effective is all I can say
I used them on the lake with great success, but did not like the fact that they had no type of barb to hold plastic baits on as trailers, aside from the regular pork frog imitations.
I asked Ralph to add some sort of wire holder beneah the head to hold on the Yamamoto Twin Tails and he did, and they were awesome. I ordered a couple of dozen, and probably have about 10 left.
I have used a lot of other jigs since then, and they were good, some were great, but none have the same weedguard that Ralph had on his jigs, or come through brush as well as his.

Rattlebacks are what I use. cheap, great hooks, basic colors and they work. shop around and you can get them for about $2 apiece.(bass pro) I did some web surfing for jigs this morning...
line X jig look nice.
evolution jig looks good too.
both are a bit "gimicy"
cost more and don't know about the designs.
I'll stick with the rattle backs for now. here in NY there is one more problem with an expensive jig... PIKE will remove an expensive jig quick. So go buy a dozen rattlebacks some trailers and go get em!!
rngr481, one big thing that I have learned about getting jigs hung up in heaver cover is, normaly when I am getting hung up a lot it is because I am working the jig to fast. When I start getting hung up I tell myself to slow down and work the jig slow, and it usually helps.
ps. I get more bites when I slow it down too.
Rattleback's have to be about the worst for hanging up in my experience.
I like Stone with the triangular head and huge hook... also use Stanley and one made here locally (a 5/8oz)
many guys in this area pour their own jigs so its a feast of possibilities...
tip is to pull the weedguard apart in the middle a bit 3x a day...
also slow retrieves help reduce hanging up... and have a lure retriever pole ready...
hey, its part of the game...
