I just buy 1/2 ounce cylinder weights and trim them to the size I want depending on the depth... If it's deep I leave most of the lead but in shallow water I trim most of the lead off and use the excess lead to pour jigs. Simple and works really well.

I've used an assortment of sinkers for this. First start with some plain round split shot, no ears. start at the 1/8 oz size and go up. tie a small not in the end of your drop and clamp on the split shot just above the knot. cheap and easy.
I also use 1/8 ox mojo sinkers using the same technique. just crimp the ends to hold the sinker on.
if you want to go fancy I'd go with the quickdrop or owner drop shot sinkers. The owners are real nice if you can find them.
1/8, 3/16, 1/4oz. should be all you need. pick up some size 4-1 dropshot hooks, some 6# line, couple bags of Roboworms, and catch some bass!!

    Re: Drop Shot Help (capticeman)

I prefer the clip type drop shot weights. The cylinder weights will come through the cover better but the round ones will drop faster and straighter. They wont twist your line as bad. For fishing 15 feet to 50 feet, I use a 1/4 ounce sinker.

The "dropshot" sinkers do swivel and wont twist your line as bad. They are also much faster to rig. You dont have to tie them on. Just clip them on the line and go. This is important if you have a big school of fish under your boat and you are broke off.

Make sure to try the new Spotsticker hand poured worms. They rock on drop shot.
