Rehab on 2009 Z boat transom trim.

Flimsy transom trim rehab on my 2009 Z21 Intracoastal. It looked like crap and the Uroflex adhesive had come loose years ago allowing it to ripple up. Got most all the adhesive off with a razor blade and scalpel then Goof Off. (None of it was stuck to the trim piece) Applied the Sikaflex, taped/weighted the trim down and waited 24 hours. Trimmed excess adhesive off. 1st time use of Wipe New product to bring the color back and it looks way better than it did new. 2 year warranty on the Wipe New stuff. We shall see how it holds up....

I had to do that to my '09 as well. I've been chasing a water leak and discovered an area under that transom trim piece that didn't have any caulk/silicone between the hull and top cap.

The Sikaflex gives you plenty of time to get that flimsy POS trim duct taped down flat and at this point it appears to be stuck to the gelcoat and trim piece pretty well after a couple days cure time. Full cure in 4-6 days. I tried to peel it up. The Wipe New requires 24-48 hours of cure on it with no water contact.

Are there alternatives to using Sikaflex? Any 3M products that are more readily available would work such as 4200 or 5200?

Maybe? You would need to check it for adhesion.

Going to end up having to do the same, to remove the Trim piece do you have to Loosen any jackplate / motor bolts? I’m really hoping I can just pull it out and won’t have to Mess with loosening any bolts.

You will need to determine if the trim is trapped between the jackplate and transom first. If it is then loosening the bolts isn't a big deal. Keep the bolt solid and just back off the nuts to let the engine rock back a bit. You don't disturb the integrity of the bolts sealing that way. Re-torque when your done.

Perfect thank you, to do this I’m guessing I would just have to loosen the two Top nuts where the Jackplate sits on the trim piece and it should move back far enough to give me room to Pull the Trim Piece out, if not do I loosen the bottom bolts as well? Sorry for asking simple questions that seem obvious, I’ve never Touched the Transom/Jackplate Bolts so I want to make sure I do everything correctly. I found a small leak that’s coming into my battery compartment from what looks like under the trim piece, I’ve read most of the time the sealant back there will crack and will let water in.

Try just the top bolts 1st.
Best to go ahead and remove all of the old sealant under the trim and replace it. If it's damp between the transom and top cap area after removing the sealant it will need to dry completely prior to applying the new sealant. The factory replacement sealant is available from the Basscat boat site. Black or white.
*This stuff is extra sticky. Mask off the area and wear surgical gloves.

I ordered a new transom trim piece from Ranger parts for my 2008 Z20 as my orignal one cracked at one end. My old one came off easily without having to loosen my jackplate bolts.

I have not yet sealed under the new trim piece as I am waiting for some good weather to seal this along with my rub rail.

The new one looks great along with the new rubber mat and access hatch I replaced at the same time.
    ciao,
