Opinions on Rapala DT series crankbaits

I'm looking to buy some Rapala DT series crankbaits. They have 3 different series. The flat series, sure set series and the Dt series original. I'm looking at the DT series originals to buy. Does anyone used any off the DT series baits and which one should I go with.

    Thanks John

The DT6's and DT4's are awesome baits. I love them for shallow cranking. They cast great and track straight right out of the box.

DT series is a good crankbait. I think all Rapala's are good in my opinion. This bait tracks true and is durable. Good value and catches fish what more could you ask for! Try a few of each the flat has a tighter wobble and the sure set has the special hooks(haven't tried this one yet) Try some you'll like them!

They are very nice.......run true, and do cast a MILE

Only have an original DT6 now, but about to get 4 flat series (2 of the sure set ones)...
And then 3-4 of the original body style (2 being the sure set).....

Will update on how these run

I like the flat series. I hope they come out with more than just 7's. I'm leary of the sure set hooks though. Looks like they might get hung up a little more. I think I'd rather buy the regular hooks, and change them to sure sets if I'm ever fishing open water w/ no wood cover.

The sure set hooks don't get hung like you think. I'm using the original and the sure set. I'm fishing the same areas with stumps and brush and one didn't get hung more than the other.

The DT baits are as good as you can get off the shelf.Go to http://www.sellerscustomlures.com and check out some of the paint jobs he puts on them. He can make them look great.

Rick Dale does a great job, but I have a few that Votor painted for me that are pretty sweet too

Yes you will like the Rapala DT series baits. Like some others have already said they are one of the few mass produced shelf balsa baits that you can buy that will run perfectly 99.99% of the time right out of the box. My personal preference is the original DT series and the new Flat series baits. One other great point about these baits that I like that doesn't get mentioned very often is the tuning that goes into each of these baits. When you tie on a DT-10 for example you can feel confident that lure on 10lb line is going to run 10ft. The same goes for all the other models. They all run to their advertised depths which I think takes alot of the guess work out of picking the right bait for the job for the average angler.

Thanks Damon, It's good to see someone is truly honest and sincere about these baits. I'll see if Cabellas can just ship them to you and save me the mental anguish of looking at them. Again, Thanks for sparing me all those frustrating hours of fishing those garbage DTs.

In my limited experience, if it says Rapala on the box it's quality. I've never had a problem with any Rapalas. They run true from the package. I love the DT series....jmho. I love Wiggle Warts too, but the last several I've bought I've had a heck of a time tuning them to run true.

    I'm here to help!!!!!

I like the DT6 better than any of the others, but they all have their place, and they are excellent baits IMHO.

Re: Opinions on Rapala DT series crankbaits (firecapt343)

I have a lot of confidence in Rapala lures. As soon as you get them, assuming you got a variety of DT Dive To depths, I'd mark them by depth until you can know from using them which dives to what depth. When I first bought a tray of them I painted one tiny red dot on the bill for each 5 feet of dive. Green dots stand for one foot increments. One red and one green is for 6 feet. 4 greens 4 feet. 3 reds and one green is 16 feet. I use the same scheme for all diving crankbaits. It really helps with putting a pile of used baits back in the right trays quickly without having to study bill lengths, and if the sonar indicates you need to quickly tie on a DT10, you lose no time searching. I've had to scrape paint off and renumber a few that just won't get down to rated DT no matter how long the cast, speed of retrieve, water temp, or diameter of line, in Rapalas and most other brands, some really way off especially in the 20+ depths.

I really love the original DT series of baits. The DT6 and DT16 really work well for me. They run true, cast a mile, and catch tons (a few ) fish for me. I have not tried the Flat series yet but, my buddy has caught some fish on the new DT6 Sure-Set chartreuse shiner baits. I'm sure that these baits are just as good as the originals. I am going to probably try them all.
