I agree there were a lot of folks at the Expo, I saw the lines every morning!

But did you like the color shirt that Davy wore or the way that Zona combed his hair? Those are important gripes....

I was focused on Matt Robertson's hair, so missed out on Zona and Davy. Maybe next year.

I just wish BASS would go back to being what it was.....a member driven organization but ship sailed when it was sold to ESPN.

A better example is that if B.A.S.S. was a huge cash cow, it would not have been sold so many times. It for sure felt like the last few times it was very hard to find a buyer and I'm guessing the pice was not that high (just a guess).

But it doesn't really matter. The Nielsen numbers are the ones that networks and advertisers trust to determine ad rates and it's been this way for a very long time.

So I just got this email from Best on Tour. Don't know where the "4 million viewers" number is coming from but it doesn't jibe with this:

According to a recent tweet by @FOXSportsPRthe Sunday broadcast of the Bassmaster Classic scored 538,000 viewers making it the most watched Bassmaster event on any network since 2009. The 2009 Bassmaster Classic on the Red River won by Skeet Reese featured more than 10 hours of television coverage on ESPN2 during the three-day event.

Well it matters if the numbers are fudged. The reason I am wondering, is that the numbers are out quickly and provided by FOX. How do they come up with that number? if you're channel surfing and you look at it for a minute does that count as a view? How many people watched it from beginning to end? I watched it for a bit but just didn't like what I saw, was I one of those views?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't blindly accept numbers. I want to know how they got those numbers.

They said “4.5M total viewers across fox and fs1”, so not a traditional tv rating

If the numbers were fudged, then either the networks or advertisers would be unhappy because someone is either not paying enough or paying too much.

You don't have to accept them but do you actually think Neilsen would risk their long-standing reputation over numbers for a bass tournament?????

Fox sports and neilson themselves had 538k number. Bass did the spin to 4.5 million “total viewers across fs1 and fox”

Fox sports PR got their numbers from Nielsen. I don't think they are going to underinflate numbers to make the classic look less viewed than it was

To be honest that sounds more logical to me. (538k vs 4.5million)
I find it strange that the same source is quoted for two radically different numbers. I think the discussion is really how these numbers are tabulated. It’s like when MLF says minutes of footage viewed, that’s a rather useless metric to know when thinking about how many people view it. One guy could’ve watched for 10 hours over 5 days. Another 5 minutes. All of these metrics seem to be a bit convoluted and open to interpretation depending on who presents them and how they do it lol

The numbers I was talking about were from FOX. Do I trust Fox or CNN or NBC or any network on the numbers they publish, because after all they sell advertising based on viewership? And yes, I would like to see how they got those numbers. A one minute drive by is completely different than someone watching the entire coverage.

Corporate America is always honest right?

538k on Fox for one hour and the rest came from the multiple days and hours of coverage on Fox Sports One.

Did some reading, it appears Neilsen uses what they call the "one minute qualifier" to count as a view. So if someone watched for a minute, they are part of the 500K that "watched" the Classic. That's an example of what I mean by interpreting the numbers and how they can fool people. If you're going to crow about how widely this was watched, at least understand what it is you are crowing about.
