    Plugging the water intake holes

Don, I appreciate your instructions for plugging the top water intake holes on the Torque Master Gear Case. Holds good water pressure in turns. I had to trim way down and watch the motor temperature before the plugs were installed.

Re: Plugging the water intake holes (esdbass)

    Don,

If one has the opportunity to do this is there a negative side to doing this?

Why would Mercury make the holes if they would be better off plugged? I am thinking of doing it if I could benefit from it.

    Thanks

Re: Plugging the water intake holes (Mark5795)

Not all 3L gearcases are running at 70+ MPH, mounted to 6"+ jackplates.

The increased engine height (and subsequent drop in water pressure if the upper holes are exposed to air or aerated water) is the only reason to consider plugging them.

What's your water pressure at WOT?

20 or better. No issue that appears but I do see a good drop when I corner....

As long as you can maintain 15+ in turns, you're ok.
