    Sleep aids (meds)

Anyone have any suggestions? I have no trouble going to sleep, but can't stay asleep. I might sleep an hour maybe two and I am back up. The most I ever sleep is like 5 hours but that's maybe once a month.

Get a referral for sleep study, you may have sleep apnea.

Dr. Mike I need a refill....

Ambien gives me a bad aftertaste all day long as it does a lot of people.
Benedryl works in gel form and take just as you go to bed, No caffeine for several hours before bedtime and no smoking for at least 2 hours. Rozerem worked gooooood for me but it is an RX.
You can also buy you some melatonin and it helps also. I would start with that and a walk around the block....I'll send you a bill as I had to pay a Dr. for all this and a sleep study....

Melatonin may be worth a try, but if you need anRX product, talk to your Dr about giving Remeron a try. It's actually an anti-depressant but causes drowsiness as a side effect. Most of my patients on it are actually using it for sleep. Non addicting, 8 hour duration, no hangover effect in the morning

If you snore he may be correct. I also have heard very positive things about melatonin.

Doc gave me Lunesta....what I like about it is even if you don't get 8 hours of sleep, maybe 4-6, it's good solid sleep. But like others have said, if you're having an issue talk to your doc about a sleep study just in case there's an issue you don't know about...

On a serious note. If you find yourself tired during the day, falling sleep while driving home from work, loud snoring, etc a sleep study is a great idea. I was dignosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) several years ago. I have a CPAP machine with about 10 different masks.

    Re: Sleep aids (RobShaw1)

I think I have tried all the sleeping pills there are. My wife is a Pharmacist and started giving my ADHD son Melatonin. I think we have all been using it for some time now. It's the only thing I have found that helps me sleep and not have a hangover feeling the next morning. I THINK it's all natural. Your body produces a chemical called melatonin for sleep. We get it at the GNC store. I have told many of my friends about it. Most like myself swear by it and others say it doesn't do a thing for them. I am for sure not a Dr but I would give it a try. I also agree with the others about having a sleep study done. About 7 years ago when I was close to 400 pounds I had one done and realized I had sleep apnea. After loosing over 150pds I had another study done and found that I had no more apnea. Still have problems sleeping sometimes and the Melatonin sure helps me. Good Luck!!!

    Re: Sleep aids (Dog)

Great job Greg on losing the weight. I'm down about 55# from a couple years ago. When I was heavier & smoking, I had sleep apnea real bad according to my wife. I quit smoking first then started losing weight & no more apnea. It was so bad at one point my wife would wake me up & tell me to breathe. I remember 1 night she woke me up at least 10 times. I was getting mad & she said you stop breathing so I said then let me die.
Sterling, go get a sleep study done. No caffine after 4 & limit sugar intake as well.
