A guy in my club has a 1997 Johnson 150 Ficht that has been giving him problems for over a year. It keeps blowing a 10 amp fuse that he calls a "mini fuse". This fuse is supposedley in the tilt/trim and ignition circuit.
This motor has left him stranded several times over the last year when this fuse blew. He has had worked on by 3 different dealers and none have fixed the problem. If anyone has any ideas, he could sure use some help.
When the fuse blows, the motor will stay running if it is already running, but will not restart if turned off. I think the motor also trims to full down posiiton when the fuse blows.
A local guy told him "the solenoid is bad and drawing too much current", but I'm not sure what solenoid they are talking about. My friend's boat is currently in the shop with 4th different dealer who said they can fix it. He passed on the info about the solenoid. I guess shop # 4 checked the solenoid and now concurs that it is drawing too much current.
As of today, shop # 4 has not yet fixed it and my friend does not know what their plan is. If anyone has info that may help, your comments would certainly be appreciated.
