Brother in law just had half of his foot removed, may end up with the leg amputated below the knee if they can’t get the infection under control. Diabetes is some nasty sh!t …

I just got diagnosed about 5 months ago (a1C was 6.8/fasting blood glucose was about 170, so it was caught early thanks to 2X/year doctor visits). Much of the diet stuff you hear in the popular media is garbage information. I cut out my daily cereal and other carbs ("healthy" and other wise) and eat a low sugar yogurt for breakfast and then a Premier protein shake and Atkins bar for lunch and went from 210 to 185. I was put on metformin at the time of diagnosis, and it was a rough adjustment due to back cramps around the kidney area and GI issues, but that went away after about 3 months of being on it. I take a blood sugar reading about every morning using a test strip/reader and my blood sugar has been in the 110-130 range, which is good. I haven't increased my exercise much, but that could be my next step in the process.

Low carbs and sugars diet for sure. Research sugar alternatives carefully. Some spike insulin worse than cane sugar. Research fruit sugar levels as well. Keto lifestyle is a great match for controlling diabetes. Watch or subscribe to Dr. Eric Berg on YouTube. He also has a live Q&A every Friday from all around the globe. Good luck and stay the course.

Basically limit Carbs, The Libre 14 day monitor is a game changer. I went from 195lbs to 145lbs and could not get my A1C under 7.4. After getting an education from the Libre is about 6.4.
Carbs, Donuts Pop are suicide. Sugar is basically poison. Stay off Insulin for as long as you can. Metformin , glipizide, farxiga all make a huge difference.

Let your MD and a dietician help design your dietary meal outlines.

If you have impaired kidney function, high protein is a bad concept.
Even if you don't, there's a lot to consider in the overall scheme.

My deceased wife was fully insulin dependent for over sixty years.
She actually passed away from a hospital acquired lung infection.

Although diabetes is a bear, it's manageable with healthy behavior.
Seek out professional advice. There are multiple issues to address.

There is many good suggestions in various replies, so I will suggest that you look at you food intake to eliminate any soda items especially those with high fructose corn syrup, also known as glucose–fructose, isoglucose and glucose–fructose syrup, which is a sweetener made from corn starch.
It adds an unnatural amount of fructose to your diet, leading to increased liver fat, which increases your risk of obesity and weight gain, hence, consuming excess fructose can make your body resistant to insulin’s effects.
Natural fructose is beneficial when consumed from the actual fruit or vegetable, however, many serious diseases have been linked to the overconsumption of HFCS and processed sugars have been shown to drive inflammation, which is associated with an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Exercise doesn't have to be a drudgery and can be done in many forms even during your daily life, since your objective should be in increasing your total caloric consumption while transitioning it with reduced worthless foods and beverages and increasing your complex carbs and foods with a slow uptake of glycemic index, which in itself is not a diet plan but one of various tools.

Stay physically active in every possible way, and remember that you did not get to this point overnight, so please make it a positive journey instead of a belaboring race, which I pray that in time will lead you to overcome this Type 2 diabetes.

Even if you're not diabetic, eliminating pretty much all sugar, white flour & carbs will do absolute wonders for your body. We Americans have the most food on the planet and 90% of it is shit.

I agree with most of the dietary elimination, but it may not be a great idea to eliminate all carbs, since complex carbs are an excellent source of energy and some a necessary to assimilate some amino acids. The internet is full of anecdotal success stories, though there's no scientific evidence of health benefits, particularly in the long term, since sadly most people return to their previous eating habits, unless they have taken time to have some very good coaching or training in modifying and eliminating most of those habits.

North Americans should eat less of many things, especially sugars, without eliminating healthy foods, including whole grains, dairy and legumes using a more sustainable approach: Don't cut out food groups; Enjoy the variety, including dessert — as long as it's occasional.

METFORMIN!! Are you seeing an Endocrinologist? That drug has done more damage to me than anything else. Diarrhea?? Do not trust a family Physician to treat diabetes.

Are you a doctor? Fructose is only one aspect of diabetes. When people switch to sugar free foods they are switching to a new synthetic diet that includes Malitol and just about any ingredients that end "tol" these are laxatives found in baby formula and there are are at least three or more listed in the ingredients.
Salt is your worst enemy!! There isn't a cure for any type of Diabetes!!
If you want to know the first signs of diabetes, here are a few, always thirsty, peeing for long periods of time, blurred vision. There are many ways to manage your diabetes and that starts with an Endocrinologist, you may go through a few of them, as some are just in it for the money, or the staff is terrible. More people are diabetic and don't know it,or they just won't go to a doctor.
    Good luck to you.

The day my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic was the day I decided changes were in order. Made some changes to my diet, and got back into a regular daily exercise routine. And lost 40 lbs. That was about 12 years ago. Quit dipping 4 years ago, was able to keep my weight down.
Best decision I ever made. I saw what diabetes did to my grandfather. I’ll do anything in my power to avoid that $h!+.

Great result! Really motivating. I also have an example in my family, my brother. So I'm worried about it. My endocrinologist says that I'm not even pre-diabetes yet, however, he prescribed me ozempic for weight loss. Even though I've got ozempic coupon, I'd better like to go natural way to lower insulin levels. So I follow a low carb, low fat diet and exercise regularly. I already lost 8 lbs but need to lose way more.

Was diagnosed pre-diabetic many years ago with high A1C levels, dropped 30 pounds and eliminated a bunch of sugar type ingredients from my diet and in good shape now. Still need to drop more weight but blood work still clean.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last spring. A1C was 14.2. I changed my diet and take Metformin everyday and when they tested my A1C a couple weeks ago it has dropped to 6.7.

You can reverse Type II diabetes eating a ketogenic diet. It is really an easy diet to maintain. I lost 80lb and dropped my A1C to 5.4 in the first year and a half. Been doing it for almost 4 yrs now.
