    Northern Virginia help.

Need some help locating a motel, hotel, inn, etc cheap but in a decent location in northern va. area. My wife has a coworker that we are trying to help out. Her husband is in icu there, he has been there for 13 days already looks like he will be in icu another two weeks , then room, then rehab if he pulls through everything he will eventually need a double lung transplant. We are trying to find her a cheap or resonable place to stay. I tried looking on line but couldn't find anything in the price range we were looking at. Trying to find somewhere that has weekly or monthly rates. If anyone is around that area and can recommend a place I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Brian

Hey Brian, can you narrow down Northern Va. as to what hospital he is in?

You might do a search for the extended stay style suites. Has she checked with the hosipital to see if they have any prearranged deals with local hotels? Unfortunately not much cheap in Northern VA.

The travel site we use at work lists 30+ hotels within 5 miles of the address. Several are homewood, embasy, and extended stay suites. The pricing I get wouldn't be of any use to you (corp discount, etc). But, I spend a lot of time on the road and have found for extended stays in a hotel, speaking to the manager can save a lot of cash, and I mean a TON. If your friend explains the situation, and has a minimum length of stay, they will usually knock a bunch off.
As an example, one place I am at for almost 3 months a year broken into several trips, charges an average daily rate of 98.00. Our company gets a discount, and pay an average of 85/day. I pay 45/day, because they know I will be there for several months.

Often times you can ask if they offer a discounted rate for a local business, such as the hospital itself. The hospital may also have an agreement with some of the local hotels for discounted pricing. Their customer service may have that type of info.

Being near DC, a short term furnished rental mey be another viable option, usually on the pricey side, but definatley may be able to come across a good deal this time of year.

Check northern VA craigs list...several places listed as room for rent, or studio for rent. You all may find a nice "non crazy" lady in that area with a very nice place to rent just looking to pick up a little extra cash. Im seeing places for $400 - $600 a month in that area, that is in the $16 a night price range. Most folks are looking for a long term lease...but I'd be willing to bet some nice person out there would be willing to work with her under the circumstances. Of course that will require some home work and checking to make sure the room mate is not a nut job...but could be a win win. You could also post in that same section on CL what and where she is looking for and her situation...I'd bet you get some responses. Sorry to hear of her situation...hope it works out.

We had passed on to her yesterday that c/l was an option. That is something that she is going to have to research to make sure she doesn't get with the wrong person.

    Thanks for the help
