Our guide's motor won't start! What would you do?

I would expect the guide to refund or offer to rebook.

I once had a guide that dropped our reservation a few weeks before the scheduled date. He went to chase BP dollars instead of meeting the obligations he had already committed to. I though that was pretty crappy but he did set us up with another boat and we ended up having a good trip.

The guide should either:

A) Get you on another boat with another guide.
B) Get another boat he can use for the day.
C) Give you a full refund of any deposit/monies you have already paid him for the trip.

Your travel expenses are just that, yours.

Agree, and I find it hard to believe in San Diego he could not make option A or B happen.

I can't believe any guide would choose to keep your money after failing to deliver a day on the water. Not sure what happens if the weather causes the cancellation though. A rain check would be my best guess but these things should be addressed beforehand.

I would expect a full refund and if I had traveled to get there maybe a discounted trip in the future (or I wouldn't rebook)

You cancel, he keeps your money, he can't provide a service, you get a refund.

I agree a refund is due but I wonder if people feel differently if a customer cancels the morning of or night before. Should guide get to keep full fee?

This guide required 50% deposit. And if we were to "last minute" cancel, he would keep the deposit.
