Our guide's motor won't start! What would you do?

My buddies and I booked a guided San Diego Offshore tuna (flights/hotel/car) last month. After a night of no sleep because of excitement and the morning of "pregame hype speech" from our guide on the boat-his motor doesn't start! What would you do? Would you expect anything back?

I agree a refund is due but I wonder if people feel differently if a customer cancels the morning of or night before. Should guide get to keep full fee?

If it is a death or something in family, ok. All other reasons pay the guide!

I would expect a refund in this scenario. Now if the client cancels on a guide at the last minute the guide should be able to keep the whatever the deposit was up to and including 100% IMO.

I wouldn’t book with a guide that didn’t provide a full refund in this scenario. On the flipside, fisherman cancels or no-shows last minute, guide keeps full amount. Heck, i just canceled a trip five weeks away and offered to pay the guide in full.

If I canceled the night or morning of, I would pay the guide the full fee. In this case, I would expect a refund.

The Guide should give a refund for his part. Air,hotel, and car is on you. If the Guide could have made another arrangement with another Guide, I'd give him a tip. But how often is that going to happen .

For sure. Spot on. Refund for guide fee and that’s it. Nothing more. Shit happens.

    The guide should either:

    A) Get you on another boat with another guide.
    B) Get another boat he can use for the day.
    C) Give you a full refund of any deposit/monies you have already paid him for the trip.

Your travel expenses are just that, yours.

Every guide that I've hired makes it very clear that there is no refund if cancelled after a certain date, usually a week prior.

Just about every guide service I have looked at has a cancellation policy. Usually you will lose your deposit.
