    Meherrin River @ Chowan River

I've got a question for you Va. guys..... Can you run a full size bass boat (19' Ranger) from the junction of the Chowan & Meherrin all the way up the Meherrin to Murfreesboro this time of the year?

Someplace above Murfresboro are kinda scary but I ran it Saturday all the way to where there is a downed tree across the river and you have to go through the top of it, I would say a good 5 miles above Murfresboro bridge.

Forgot to tell you the deer flies are terrible as of 12:00 in the afternoon there were (no exaggeration) 40 dead ones on the deck of my boat.

i think i killed atleast 250 deerflies (yellowflies) up the meherrin past 258 bridge the 3 days ive been up there this week. Catching more quality fish below the 258 bridge then up past it

Wow, Not sure I can't stand that many deerflies. Does bug spray or anything work on 'em.

I've gotta find somewhere up that way to find some fishies.....

Wanna get rid of the flies? add a sheet of bounce dryer to your hat so that it hangs out the back, I usually wipe down my legs and arms with a sheet also no more flies. Sounds weird but it works

If you are a smoker, my dad always smoked a cigar to keep the flies at bay. Seemed to work for him.

I just wear long sleeves and long pants. Seems to work fairly well for me.
