    East Texas HOG HUNT

    Thanks to Scott Jordan

Was invited to go on an old fashion east TEXAS hog hunt this weekend by my buddy Scott on his lease. First time I took my gun from the case in 25 years. Took it to Scott's shop and from 40 yards dead nuts on ( 742 Rem. Woodsmaster 30 06 )

Got up Sat. applied all the non scent spray climbed up in Scott's stand. Huge deer and hogs at the feeders. Scott sez put one in her ear ( 200 lbs sow ) at 100 yards. He told me I need the hogs away from my feeders they are scaring my deer off. And I need the "baby makers" to be gone first. Dawn cracks hear feeder go off and 7 hogs under the feeder range from 90 to 220 lbs 2 BIG sows. Now Scott sez he wants a surgical strike against these sows. I took aim and pow, all of them lit a shuck towards the woods. I was steady wiping egg off my face thought I missed after a 30 minute wait we get down out of the stand and went to the feeder. When we got there there was blood everywhere and to Scott's amazment under the feeder amunst the blood and guts was a embryo baby pig I surguricly remove .... Scott said I told you to shoot her in the ear , now most would think I shot low and gut shot this hog but being the dead eye shot I am I was simply determined to give this sow a low budget "C Section" and spade her at the same time ...

Scott said he has been hunting since he was 14 been to 3 county fairs and a goat roping and he had never seen anyone remove an unborn fetus from an animal from 100 yards away with such presicion.....

Again Scott thanks for a GREAT day , one that I'll always charish....

    Jay,

Scott should have known you would have taken it down to the .001" to get it done! I wonder what her "leak down" numbers are now! Hahahaha!!!

Sound like a good time away from the shop!

Re: East Texas HOG HUNT (JaySmithRacing)

Well went gun shopping today and bought a Remington model 700 7MM Mag. Stainless barrel, black composite stock with best most powerfull Leupold scope they had to let in more light, pick it up Friday......I SURE wanted the SWAROUSKI scope BUT couldn't convince my self that a scoppe was worth $2300.00 hell the $800.00 Leupold. was bad enough...

We will see if the next Ms. Piggy gets away with just a "C" section and a spay job this time...

Damn Jay, ya'll shootin 100 yard shots or 1000 yards??? I got an old weaver 3-9X on a Remington 30-06 that will drive nails at 100yrds... I am old school I guess I still prefer the wood on the rifle rather than the Composite... I always wanted to build up a Carlos Hathcock replica Winchester model 70 30-06 like he used for sniper shooting . Neat rifle..

Re: East Texas HOG HUNT (keefus)

My plan "could" be to go on a hunt in Canada with Scott and a 30-06 is too low a caliber , the guides won't approve that low a caliber gun on this kind op hunt. I wanted to buy 1 gun for all hunting..Darn guns and especially high end scopes are stupid high !!!!!

A guy that hunted with me and my dad also hunted Mule Deer and Elk.. His one gun plan was a 300 H&H Mag... Every deer season my dad would dread the time for sighting it in after the off season..

Re: East Texas HOG HUNT (Rickster)

    Rick,
I am having custom work done on the 7MM Mag to make it more shooter friendly Monday morning.

    1. Muzzel brake
    2. TRigger job
    3. More agressive recoil pad

Should be a pussy cat ( on MY end ) after that..
