Reeda, the best way to watch a landing is on tv. Years ago, I went to Port Canaveral and watched Discovery go up. Where we were was as close as you could get to the launch pad without being in a boat. It was awesome! The sound was unreal, the vibrations had like a 6" ripple all throughout the port. I don't care if I gotta call in sick, next time one goes up I will be at the port watching!
We went to watch the landing on the same mission. It sucked. We were directly across the indian river from the runway. You could hear (and feel!) the sonic booms, and a few seconds later we could see the tail moving across a row of trees....Never saw it until it touched down. It's a lot better on tv.
The feeling for Columbia was unreal. We know that the sonic booms come in our area about 2 minutes prior to touchdown...I was outside working on my uncles truck and watching the clock...Said, ok we should hear them now...and nothing. We waited a bit, then turned on the tv to see what happened cause we knew it wasn't gonna be good.

That would be awesome to watch, i know i will never be able to see a take off in person and im sure the tv doesn't do it justice..i did catch a few minutes of the landing on the news this morning, it was pretty cool..
