I have a buddy that is considering the purchase of a 2007 Ranger 170vs, and he is wondering what the livewell capacity is; anyone have any idea?

I think my livewell is 14 gallons, never was really sure. The 170 vs boat is only 4 inches shorter than the 178. I cant imagine the livewell being any smaller or bigger.
The livewell is actually insufficient if fishing a tournament. I have to remove the divider if I have any sizable fish In there. And most of the time I just don't install it. Had almost 40 lbs in it once, but that was 10 fish and they were very packed in there. I had to leave the pump on.

About 15 Gallons, fish out of my buddies all the time, take out the divider, we let it run all day during tournaments, no problem at all.
I have a z185 and to increase the water in the live well take a cup and cut it in half. Tape over the outflow port increasing the water level a few inches.
This ^ is a good suggestion. Another one that works if the water temperature and water quality is appropriate in the live well is just to insert a plug into the same [live well overflow] hole. Again, this raises the water level in the live well by a few inches, which makes a significant difference in oxygen available to the fish and also “elbow room” for them. The potential downside to plugging the overflow is that once you use the auto setting to reach the desired water level, you have to keep the setting on recirculate to avoid overflowing. That said, even in very hot water, if the fish don’t seem lively enough, I sometimes keep them in high water, using the recirc feature, but also going back every hour or so to let out a little water, pump in some fresh water, and then insert the plug in the overflow and go back to recirculate. Hope that wasn’t too long-winded. Tournament fishermen got to do what they got to do!
