Has anyone tried a bigger wheel on a 2109 520c with Merc 4 stroke 250XS? Maybe a 25 or 26 Fury 3 blade? Is Merc only getting the hole shot and mid range due to the 23p fury that comes stock on the boat?

Hey, I am just now working to get mine set up properly. I have an 8" plate. Any suggestions for prop to pad on this boat? I can't seem to get this thing to go over 50mph.

I would imagine holeshot, especially with a 26p, would be horrible and turning close to max rpm's near impossible.

I'm breaking mine in still. I went from a Optimax 250 ProXS to a 2024 250 ProXS. I took the 25 Fury 3 from the old motor and am now using it on the new one. I have 3 hours on her right now so I've had some limited runs of a couple of minutes at WOT. I'm encountering a pretty aggressive chine walk at 62GPS turning about 5K. Didn't really want to push her any higher.

To answer your question about holeshot...I had pretty good holeshot. She jumped up on plane pretty quickly, and considering all that I've read, better than I expected.

Boat: 2003 Ranger 519vx single console.
    Motor: 2003 mercury optimax 200
    Jackplate: hydraulic 6"
Prop: Mercury Tempest 25", all plugs open
Setting to Pad: not 100% as i go up or down with plate depending on waves and where the motors performing the best. probably 3 1/2" to 2 3/4" below pad
Top GPS Speed: 68mph with full tanks, medium load 1 guy fighting chine walk
Average GPS Speed: 63.5mph with full tourney load 2 guys
    RPMs: 5270
Notes: getting prop cleaned up and balanced this winter, also have a 100amp/h lithium in starboard front locker for pan-optics

tried a 24p fury and ran about the same speeds but 0 bow lift..
24p tempest 1 to .5mph slower then my 25 tempest still good bowlift
i would like to try a 4 blade

I have a 07 520VX 225 Yamaha SHO on an atlas manual jack plate and I’ve never seen 70mph. I don’t know enough about P2P measurements and all that to even consider moving engine. I have no bow lift at top end. Comes outta whole great. Had a 02 TR20 with a 200 Optimax that would run mid 70s easy chine walk the whole time.
