    Question Mega Live 1.150 Helix Firmware update issue

    Today I went to update the firmware on my Mega Live. I have a 9"MDI+ & 10"MDI+ on the bow, & a 12" MSI+ at the helm, all G4N. I have a Mega 360 & a Ultrex I-Pilot link. All 3 head units, ML & the Ultrex are routed through a 5 port hub. I checked the software version on the ML...it was 1.130. I inserted the formatted SD card with the update into my 12" unit & got the message that it recognized the card, the message asking me to confirm that I was installing the update & then the message asking if I wanted to abort the update. I answered "yes" & then "no". Everything was going great!...and then it wasn't. The ML screen froze & then I got a "lost source" notification, which HB said was normal. ML never came back up & now none of the 3 head units will recognize ML...it's as if it had been uninstalled. to say that I'm frustrated at the moment is an understatement.

    ML was running fine prior to starting this & I could pull it up on all 3 units.

    Nathan, you may have bricked your mega live.
    First, your updating the mega live transducer not your head unit.
    When you canceled the update, it threw it for a loop.
    HB's update has it's flaws, you found one.
    Call tech support for the best help.

    OK BassBum, I didn't cancel the update. The prompt asked if I wanted to abort the update...I answered "no".

    chubbychaser, yes, I tried restoring the defaults.

    I'm dropping her off at the dealer that installed it in the morning. I talked to the tech & he said they may have to go back in & re-install 2.660 into each of the units & then see if it will recognize ML. That's what they had to do when they updated the head units the last time.

    Easy way. Can you see the rest of the head units and all other things connected
    To the ethernet switch?

    And once more, the update is for Mega Live transducer... not the head units.

    OK BassBum, I'm fully aware that the update is for the transducer & not the head unit, but the SD card slot located in the head unit is used to transfer the firmware update to the ML transducer & said head unit displays what firmware version is installed in my ML...if I can get it to connect with the damned thing again.

    I picked up my boat from the installing dealer yesterday. They were unable to get any of the 3 head units to connect with the ML. All units can access info from any of my other transducers (Mega 360, MSI at the stern & MDI in the trolling motor), but not the ML. I'll try to get hold of HB customer service/tech support Monday & see what they say.

    Bassfly, start with simple. Power to ML present? Ethernet connections clean and tight? Can you see the ML on the system from the unit you are loading the software from? Bob
    I re-read your initial post so you had(at least at that time) your connections and power. When it said sonar lost what was your response? Hopefully you did not do anything.(no response means you did not touch any buttons). Beyond that I would talk with HB. Don’t know your dealer, but I would ask HB directly and follow up and inform the tech working on your electronics. Good luck

    Bob, when it said ML source lost, turn off ML - yes/no, not thinking I hit "no". The instructions said "no response is necessary". I told HB CS that & he didn't say anything about it causing a problem. My dealer said they shuffled connections on the ethernet hub & everything communicated with everything else, but the ML. They connected the ML directly to a head unit...still wouldn't recognize the ML. I'm going to try to contact HB CS tomorrow & see what they say.

    Note: you are correct on the note part about the not needed part. I have seen miscommunication on instructions before. Maybe try it once without input. Can’t hurt.

    Im having to send my Mega Live in to Humminbird for similar reasons. They say the issue is isolated. My Mega Live worked fine before the update.

    May be worth mentioning but before updating, don't have more than one Helix unit powered up.
    Stay on the accessory test screen which shows your ML version number.
    Insert the card and answer Yes then No and simply wait.
    Lost connection message is normal and it will seemingly show no activity for quite some time(10 minutes.)
    The last thing to wait for is the ML to show CONNECTED and the new version number before powering down or changing views.

    Here's an update on my situation...I talked to HB customer service on Thursday. After a brief discussion, the customer service agent, Kimberley, created & e-mailed me a shipping label to send the ML transducer back to HB. She said they are averaging a 5-8 day turn around from the receipt of the item. I'm not happy about the ML dumping on me, but the response from the CS dept. at HB has been great so far. She said that responding to the "source lost" prompt should not have effected the update.

    OK...update on this whole thing. Humminbird received my unit on Monday & I had a NEW Mega live on Wednesday waiting for me when I got home from work. They said that the old ML wasn't getting power from the connection to the transducer. I have no Idea how that happened between it working & then disconnecting during the update. My next day off is Sunday, hopefully I can find time to get it installed & maybe get it on the water to play on Monday.

    bassfly, HB sent me a new ML, but I’m in between boats currently and haven’t had a chance to get it wet. Maybe next week if my boat comes in on time. Only thing different is HB didn’t say why I needed a new ML. 1,150 worked perfectly for two days. It froze on me the third day and worked intermittently until I gave up on it.

    Everything is hooked up & running!!! Now I just have to get used to it & learn how to dial it in & interpret my images...nothing but time on the water.
