    Fall Classic reports

Just got back home from Buggs for the Fed Nation Fall Classic. Man what a brutally tough tourney. My partner and I were able to catch fish in decent numbers both days predominately on shallow cranks but never were able to boat a 14 inch keeper. Was feeling bad till I started talking to people and let me tell you there were a lot of people who zeroed. Heck I think out of 170 something anglers only 3 brought limits both days. Winning weight was 18 and change, and I think second was 15 and change. In 30 some odd years of fishing I can never remember two back to back days being so ridiculously hard to find good fish. How did all of you TBF guys make out on Gaston, I have heard it was even worse there?

    Re: Fall Classic reports (vafishing)

Did not fish the classic at Gaston but fished there Wed- Fri with a guy who was. It was TOUGH! I think I only caught 4 keepers in 3 days. I know my buddy only had one keeper on day one and two keepers on day two. He said there were lots of zeros both days.

The water was 65 and clear. Still had some green grass. Had no pattern at all. At least I do not feel bad that I did not fish Buggs--sounds like it was just as tough there!!

My wife runs the grill there at Morningstar Marina on Gaston and she told me that the guy that won ( I think his name was Kenny Beale) had 15 lbs 8 ozs +-. Lots of zeros too she said.

Wow, sounds like a good weekend to have had to work. The bite on the river was pretty good for me last week, but sounds like that fell apart too.

Crankbaits the first day, seemed like the plastics worked better second day, I cranked both days hence the 6th place.

Re: Fall Classic reports (Gaston Mike)

Mike, sorry I didnt get to meet ya. I was 7th. Im the guy that didnt make it to the weigh in in time. I fished jigs both days and really felt sick after I got back in and found out all the different ways the fish were caught.
It took us the better part of Wed. and most of thurs before we found some good keepers. Maybe next time.

    Re: Fall Classic reports (Relesm)

Had them figured out on Friday, but they got me on Sat & Sun (except the stripers and yellow perch, they wouldn't leave me alone)

I ended up 6th place in the Gaston ABA which was pretty good as I didn't get to prefish....took 8 and some change to win and no limits out of 19 boats.

Re: Fall Classic reports (Gaston Mike)

Killer for me was on Friday I fished for a couple of hours only chance I had to do any pre-fishing. I had a couple of good keepers on one particular crankbait. Right at the end of the day I lost that one. Thought I had more in the box so go to check so I can have one on the next day, and of course no more in there. No problem I'll hit Buggs Bait and Tackle or Bobcats and one of them has to have it, of course no luck there. Was actually tempted to drive all the way back to Richmond to get more as I have a ton of confidence in the particular bait but figured I could get by with something else. Oh well that obviously did not pan out. Of course since I am coming back to Buggs in a week and a half I just went and spent $80 to make sure i am well stocked.
