    Lens colors (sun glasses)

So pretty much everyone on our board has fished both the lakes and the rivers....what color sunglasses lense do you think is the best all around for both the clear lakes and the brackish rivers?

Thinking about a pair of Costas or WileyX to buy myself for dad's day, but I'm just not sure on the lense color. Leaning towards amber, but open to suggestions......

Daryl, I've never been able to settle on one color for all conditions. When it's bright out, a gray lens is going to give the most protection. But in low light conditions and if you do any sight fishing, a vermillion lens is going to perform the best. I guess if I had to choose one pair, I'd go with the vermillion lens. While it may not block as much light on the brightest of days, the performance of what it lets you see and the light gathering ability during low light conditions are superior. Just my .02 worth.

That's a good point Greg...low light conditions are very important to me. The bright doesn't really bother me. I'm more intersted in being able to see through the water, and if my lenses are too dark I probably won't wear them in the mornings or in shady areas....

I know I've preached about how I would never spend more than $20 on a pair of sunglasses, never saw the point....but at the Elite Series Charlie Hartley let me try out his Costas. I was ready to throw my $16 Berkleys away after that. Made a believer out of me....

I agree, Solar Bats. I only have 1 issue with them. The wrap arounds tend to steam up on the inside on hot days. No air movement around the eyes.

I have a set of the Costa's. The model is called Fluids. The lenses are interchangeable for each condition you run across. I only use 2 out of the 3 lenses. Vermilion and the smoke gray. They are well worth the money and have a lifetime guarantee. I broke mine a few months ago and they sent me a new pair with in 2 weeks. Can't ask for better service than that!!!

The Polarized Amber Emeralds I have are pretty dang good on either lakes or rivers and I prefer them personally. The other pair I have are Polarized Smoke Green and those are good also but not in low light. Both are set in WileyX frames.

If you think amber is good try a pair on with Vermillion. You'll think twice about the amber.

    Costa Del Mar - Swordfish

I have very light sensative eyes so I wear blue mirror/grey lens. I need a pair of Amber for low light.

    Re: Lens colors (PATRO)

I have a pair of Costas with changeable lenses, came with Smoke Grey, Amber, and Vermillion. I pretty much only use the amber for the mornings and the vermillion for everything else. The smoke grey is great for driving and stuff like that I just find it too dark for fishing purposes.
