    98 Johnson 200 lower unit...

Posting for a buddy..... his boat won't go into gear if you trim up it would go into forward and if you trim down it would go into reverse... ?

Heard these lower units have issues.......?

Heard the oil injection / delivery systems fails.....?

Heard that if you mix your oil in tank it will lead to loss of compression...? Out of curiosity Can anyone explain why?

On the gearcase issue, it sounds as if there is a cable adjustment situation going on. Have him check everything for tightness from the control box back to the shift rod connection. Also, the cables could be in a bind when the motor is tilted because of the way they are routed.

How did all the 2-stroke outboards since about 1900 get lubrication and not lose compression until the introduction of oil injection over 80 years later ??????

Informed by another current Johnson (96') owner who has gone through all of these issues and has been informed by a respected Johnson Mechanic of over 25 yrs in business.... Its just a motor...You don't have to take up for her like that...

Don't get your panties in a wad...I am really trying to help a buddy figure out his best options when fixing this motor for long term use of this motor.

Ohh and bye the way...My original post takes no hostility or cheap shots at OMC... Didn't really stir a pot neither...Just simply asking questions...as I said before just trying to help a friend who owns a Johnson 200!

    THX everybody!

I am truly sorry! I wasn't aware of your sensitivity of questions asked about Johnson/Evinrude motors...

I really don't discriminate! I love them all! Be them white, grey, black, blue, or silver... Especially if they gotta big lower unit! Who cares if they are 250 on good day..???

I think if you go back are re-read your initial post ... you might see why it was met with a little sarcasm. There are rumors all over the net about this motor or that motor and what they can and can't do.

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by Jeremy &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">Informed by another current Johnson (96') owner who has gone through all of these issues and has been informed by a respected Johnson Mechanic of over 25 yrs in business.... </td></tr></table>

Then you proclaimed that you have a mechanic with 25+ years experience. Then why do you need anyone's opinion here?

Look ... ChampioNman and SeaHorse provide their own time on here UNPAID for their services trying to help those who need it. They have saved money and headaches for 1,000s of members and I've actually seen them walk people through a repair when it was obvious that the person didn't know which end of a screwdriver to hold onto. And they never ask for anything in return.

If you had asked a QUESTION instead of making what could only be perceived as STATEMENTS, then it probably would have been met with a little more "finesse".

Yeah... I don't know what he wanted with his post.... didn't seem like he was asking for help to me.

These pros donate their time to help us out. The least we can do is ask our question clearly while providing as much information as we can.

Its simply not right to toss up a half thought out question with unreadable grammar absent of vital info like a motor model number and expect these guys to spend the time to pry from you the info they need to help you out.

You can always complain to upper managment. Mr. Shields has a open door policy.

Perhaps your initial line of questions could have used a bit more thought. The posting for a buddy is/has always been a raise the flag post.

The problem was that you had statements with question marks after them, not actual questions. Every single one of them is/was a prime troll or bashing post versus OMC or BRP. After the introduction of the ETEC, there was one every other day on here, and it got plum tedious to deal with. Sarcasm cuts both ways.

For a person who was supposed to be looking for answers, perhaps you need to learn a little more tact and sincerity when you post.. you aren't going to get many answers with that attitude. Fred is one of the best - I have pestered him countless times with questions and opinions, and he is always quick to answer. I wish I had a little of his OMC/BRP knowledge, but I feel blessed that he is willing to donate his FREE time here to help us with problems. A little appreciation on your end might be a nice thing to show. If not, don't let the door hit you in the ass.
