Huntsville is nice with jobs galore. You may have to move 1/2 hour away or so to find housing near your price point? We looked there years ago, and homes in the nice parts of town were way over 150K back then.

Can I ask if there are parts of town that I should avoid? I'm looking at listings and there seems to be plenty of homes but I have no way of knowing if they are in bad areas.

Psssst, Stay just outside of Huntsville.
We just did what you are doing. We started looking 1 year ago. We bought a place in March. We are 50 mins from Huntsville living on the other side of Lake Guntersville. (Not gunna say the name of the town cuz it's small and we would like to keep it that way. But if you look close you can figure it out.)
But you can live anywhere around Lake G and get to Huntsville pretty quick.
In fact most of the roads from the area to Huntsville have been repaved and improved. They are aware of the growth of Huntsville and they are doing the best they can to get ready for the growth.
    Good luck!

Sounds....like the two of you just haven't found a business to start or buy based on previous positions.

Property in Huntsville has skyrocketed recently, not just a little.
Based on my information, you'll need to add $$ to your budget.

Spot on! More crime, congestion, traffic, hustle/bustle, all the negative things that go on with too many humans, look at Atlanta for example!!

I've been watching Zillow on a couple of cities to retire to, Huntsville being one of them. One house that I like there is iisted at $385k, which is probably $100k less than it would sell for here in Lincoln today. It sold as a new construction for $200k in 2016.

My cousin lives in the city limits of Albertville which is about 30-40 minutes from Huntsville, but still on 28 acres. Huge nice house, in ground pool, nice boat garage. He paid $165k for it in 2014 or 2016. Things used to be really cheap there. Now not so much.

definitely home prices have gone up here in the last couple of years. and most of the ones in my area outside of Huntsville have sold in a matter of days with multiple offers. We are considering selling and downsizing sometime in late 2023 so hopefully the market is still going strong. Love the house, 3200 sq ft and a 3 car attached garage big enough for the boat but just too much house for two people

I was just thinking that most of the comments are directed to Huntsville and not as many suggestions of towns around the Chattanooga area. Are there not as many towns in the Chattanooga area that are good places for employment , fishing and dancing.

Yep it is a zoo on the interstates here in Chattanooga. I know people that moved from LA and said that the drivers here are way way more aggressive. After driving through the split for 5 years I'd have to agree. I changed jobs recently and glad I can avoid the interstate completely.

I live in Arab Alabama which is about 25 minutes to Guntersville, about 45 minutes to Huntsville, and 30 minutes to Cullman. I love the area, its a very convenient area. Small town oldschool vibe. I moved from Mansfield Ohio about 8 months ago and I LOVE IT !!!!

If you do move to Alabama, you have to make the biggest decision of your life……. Are you going to be Auburn or Alabama fan. You can only choose one….
