I took several waves over the bow of CVN-69 while I was the Officer of the Deck (OOD). It happens...

And I cant believe there is a helo and an F-18 on deck...

The pole on the starboard side is nicnamed the "Belknap Pole" long story behind that one!!!

Rob, Same boat here (no pun intended - OOD on 69) LOL.

Its even cooler on an FFG though.

You must be a Mustang...when I was there, there were only 3 qualified OOD's and we we were all Mustangs...everyone else seemed to be scared...

A carrier was the easiest of my 4 OOD letters!!

    Never served on an FFG.

You should be out there on a Destroyer Escort in that mess. 1970 - 1974 USS Garcia DE-1040 stationed out of New Port, Rhode Island.

Wimps!! You need to try that in a flat bottom... LST's.... We run aground on purpose . We used to laugh at the inspection teams that crossed decked to us from the carriers talking about how rough it was. An LST (Large Slow Target) is like being in the sound in a jon boat .

You need to be on Onterio in a TR20X when it gets rough. That will get you to thinking.

Re: For the Navy peeps..... (Hardhead1)

I showed my dad that video...he said try crossing the pacific and atlantic on the USS Crockett(PG-88)
He said the inclinomter reached 66 degrees a few times on some 80+ waves.
He said they were only 164.5 feet long.

Gotta hand it to the navy guys....my a$$ would hate being in those big waves..
