    Shift Rod

What's the best way to measure this before I bolt the lower unit back on. I know I might have to adjust it after it's all on but if there's a measurment to shoot for, that would help. Thanks

Unfortunatly, I'm out of town and don't remember the numbers right off the top of my head, but if you call John at the shop (riverside Marine) he can give it to you. Yep you need to be +/- 5/16 inches or something like that. I use a yard stick with a bolt drilled through it so I don't have to mess with the tape measure every time. CM

    21-15/16 +- 1/32.
From the mating surface of the gearcase to the center of the hole in the shift rod

Am I missing something here, or did I miss something in the repair manual? I just put my lower unit in neutral and tighten the shift rod nut, (while cussing under my breath) the best I could.
If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

If you remove the gearcase and the shift rod is turned or removed the height will need to be checked before installation.
