    More 1998 Vindicator Questions

I've now read everything I can find around these engines regarding checking the carb bowl drains plugs and about ensuring that the high speed jet on #2 cyclinder is 2 sizes bigger than the others. I pulled the drain plug from cylinders #2 and #4 and they both had nipples and were not flat on the end so I think I am good there. My questions are as follows:

Does the #2 cylinder high speed jet for the 1998 year need to be two sizes bigger or did this only apply to earlier models?

If the jet does need to be two sizes larger, is the fix as simple as ordering the larger jet, removing the drain plug, unscrewing the current jet out of #2 carb, screwing the new jet in, and finally reinstalling the drain plug or am I missing something here?

I'm just trying to determine if removing the jet to check it and re-installing is a DIY or if I should leave this up to the dealer...

    thanks,
    Steven

That's it unscrew it and install the new one. Just make sure you have the right carb.

Isn't cylinder number 2 the top cylinder on the port side?

    thanks,

Yessir, but #2 carb will be top left facing the carbs.

Ok, I am confused now - If cyclinder #2 is the top cylinder on the port (left) side of the boat, wouldn't #2 carb be the top right carb when facing the carbs and looking at the front of the engine? Or are you saying that #2 carb on the opposite side of engine as the #2 cylinder?

    thanks,

ok now I am confused. So standing behind the boat with the prop on your shins facing the front of the boat. The #2 cylinder is top Left but the carb for #2 is actually in front of #1? Pictures could be worth a thousand words.

FWIW ... the use of "right" and "left" when it pertains to a boat is as confusing as it gets. I would suggest using ......

STARBOARD .... (the right side when you're sitting in the boat facing forward)
    and
    PORT .... (the other side)

    Easy way to remember:
STARBOARD has more letters than PORT.....and
RIGHT has more letters than LEFT.
    RIGHT is STARBOARD side
    LEFT is PORT side.

Same thing with your navigation lights .....
GREEN has more letters than RED, and

    GREEN is STARBOARD side
    RED is PORT side

This stuff is easy if you use the "big word, little word" system.

    Re: (Bassmeister)

Checked the numbers on the high speed jets last night on carbs #2 and #4 and both were 67d. Got a 69d ordered and on the way for carb #2.

After a closer inspection, it also make sense now that #2 carb is on the opposite side of the engine as #2 cylinder. The intake runner from each carb crosses over to a cylinder on the other side of the engine.

Thanks for all the input to my questions. This engine supposedly has less than 100hrs on it and I'm hoping to get many years of reliable service from it. Hopefully this easy and inexpensive change will help make that possible.

REMEMBER IN BASS BOATS THE STAR (STARBOARD) IS ALWAYS DRIVING (DRIVER SIDE) THE BOAT.......I know you allison and some other fast boat owners with center console seating will differ but your not in a bass boat..you operating a race boat with a small trolling motor..... THERE again, ya'll are shinning stars!!

Stroker drivers are on the left side of the boat.
