2002 and later motors were a lot better. The 2001 and earlier have no market value or trade in value no matter what the "blue books" say. Just ask any dealer what they would give you in trade for it.
If it has several hundred hours, updated EMM, and service regularly, then it may be OK if it passes a trained tech's inspection and computer diagnostics.

if they give it to you or you can buy it for what it can be parted out for get it. As Seahorse sez there is no value on the engine itself as a running engine. the 2oo1 was better than the earlier models but they became very good engines when BRP started building them in the 2002 model year.
