Question 2004 Johnson 150 dying when giving throttle

    Hi all,
hoping someone might have some ideas. My v6 Johnson 150 starts and idols fine. It goes int gear and will idol along in the water ok however as soon as you apply any throttle it just cuts out instantly. There is not coughing or sputtering it just dies. I have replaced fuel filters, checked strainer/ all ok, replaced plugs, drained carby bowls. Unsure as to what the issue is. I have been told it coul be carby based or electrical based unsure. Any help would be great.
    Cheers

While waiting for model number, when you are trying to go, press choke and see if it picks up. If it picks up then fuel system and if not, then electrical. Whats a carby?????

Yes i have only just purchased the boat. Some further info. In neutral out of the water I can quickly rev it and it will rev up but as revs drop it just stall. If i slowly bring on the revs it just stalls straight away

There is no load so it will rev out of water on the muffs. Revving above 1500 rpm on the muffs is not good.

Do you know the mechanical history of the engine? Has it sat for any length of time/not stored properly?
