    Buzzbaits

I know we have a few select pros in here so whats your take on buzzbaits and colors? I normal conditions (meaning none stained water, no run off from clay bank) do you think the color makes alot of difference? The reason I ask is I am under the assumption that a buzzbait is a reaction striking bait for the bass.

As I was tieing one on tonight I got to thinking which is a rarity but we will go with it for now....

    Re: Buzzbaits (Basshunter2006)

I have a buddy that loves to fish Buzzbaits and is fairly productive (from the back of my boat). I have never caught crap on them. I just hate throwing it. I feel I get more fish "waking" a frog across the surface. I think I'm fishing for the same "reaction strike" but with more success.

but, we all know, I'm no Pro.
Fish will probably come in from a little farther w/buzzbait than frog though...

    Re: Buzzbaits (Basshunter2006)

I believe color makes a difference. Prefer white, white/chartreuse in overcast conditions and darker, blacks, browns, and sometimes gold blades when the sun is up high. But I don't know much about buzzbaits....

Hunter Creek is my buzzbait of choice as I have caught some of my biggest bass ever off of them.

    Re: Buzzbaits (skeetersx200)

I agree with Chip on the colors plus in really clear water like on Anna at times I will go to a translucent white skirt that is farely see through. I have seen where I will have a solid white one on and get a lot of hits that seem like short strikes that even with a trailer miss hooking up and then go to the farely see through skirt and the fish just destroy the bait. My weapon of choice is the buzzbait from Secret Weapon Lure.

    Re: Buzzbaits (vafishing)

I started fishing the buzz late last year. I have caught some nice fish this year. They are an exciting bait to use. I just love seeing that bass smash the buzz. There are some better baits out there but few are more exciting.

Chip has the right answer. Only if it's raining throw a black one on points. Opps, did i really give that away!

A little trick, remove the skirt from a buzzbait and thread on a 5" White Super Fluke on the sunny day or a Watermellon Green on a overcast day, Don't tell anybody that I told you about this.

    Re: Buzzbaits (Hardhead1)

I am a buzzbait nut!!! I beleieve in throwing black all the time. Some people say that they are only good for low visibility conditions but I steadily catch fish all day long on them. My favorite is the Secret Weapon Lures buzzrbait in the midnight snack color

    Re: Buzzbaits (Basshunter2006)

I seem to have my best luck with white in all conditions. I have caught them with a chartreuse one, but the white always seems to out produce the other colors.

White 3/8 oz Culprit Buzzkill with a trailer hook.

I dont worry much about the color of a buzzbait skirt as long as its dark.

I think I am more confused then before this thread started. White, dark, white , dark. Someone stop the pain.

    Re: Buzzbaits (Just_add_water)

I think it's good to just throw what you think they will hit. You will throw it longer and better your chances of actually getting bit. I kind of find it hard to believe that a bass will haul @ss up to that noise then get to it and stop because it wasn't the color they thought it would be.

And, different ones probably do work better in different places because of what is running around in that area that bass eat. I think the white probably looks like a bunch of shad running away or coming by and that’s why I “think” it works well almost anywhere.

Note: All these comments are purely speculation on Basswipe's part and he really does not know what a bass is thinking.

    Re: Buzzbaits (Basswipe)

I'm with you Basswipe on the white, I like a Lunkerlure 1/2oz on 20lbs line with a silver or gold blade and only fish them in the low light. I have caught some big fish making repeat cast to a tree or row of stumps early and late in the day.

You've never had bass short strike a buzzbait? Don't think that maybe it got close and it didn't seem right? Bass can see pretty far, they may come for the sound and turn before they get too near as they didn't like it.

    Re: Buzzbaits (Basshunter2006)

Love'm. Been throwing them for very long time now and all I can tell is big bass will hate it. I start throwing it from the spawn on until no one else will come up on it. great for covering water during the morning and all day sometimes. had a few tourneys where they would hit all day on a bluebird sky kinda day. I love Blk or white(pending clarity). tie one on a try it out it might give you a heart attack on the strike... ...

I will use white most of the time but certain places I go they seem to like blue blade with blue skirt. Lunker Lures work for me.

    Re: Buzzbaits (dk239)

Personally i think the sound of the prop makes more difference than the color. Cavatron and other brands look really good coming through the water. I think lunker lure and hawg caller have the best sound. I take a new one out the pack and hold it out the car window going down the road for about 1/2 mile. Don't go any longer than that or it will burn it up. A squawking buzzbait drives them crazy!
