I've recently been going through my 97 Johnson 150 Fast Strike Model: J150GLEUE doing some service as she felt she was in need of a tune up. I've decarbed the motor, replaced spark plugs, removed a set of valves in the fuel lines I believed that were letting air into the fuel system, and replaced the priming bulb. A strange list but things that were in need of replacement. After doing all this she's running better, but there's still some things are are plaguing me. One of which is it seems there is excessive oil in the air box where it fits onto the carb body. There is even a little pool of oil sitting in the bottom of the air silencer seal. I only really seem to see oil if the motor has been tilted up after a drive back to the lake. When I bring it back home and tilt the motor down and return there is oil that has run down the mid section but never pools up on the floor. What could be causing this excess oil? Is VRO running too rich? Also yesterday when running the outboard with the cowling off, a hose that went into either the carb or crankcase blew out either steam, air, or air/fuel mixture unsure but thought it was very strange.
I'm looking for initial thoughts and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Hoping it's an easy fix and I can do it myself vs. having to take it somewhere. I will try and get some pictures and videos uploaded here in the next day or so if that helps.
