    hard cold start

    can anybody help me. i have a 2004 evinrude 225 di it runs fine but when it gets below 50 degrees it wont start seems like the starter is draging i have a brand new interstate 1000 cranking amp battery. above 50 it cranks and runs fine any help would be great i dont want to spend 250 bucks on a new starter and that not be the problem thanks

    It could be the start delay relay.

    would that drag down the starter like it has a load on it like i said it only does it below 50 thanks championman

    Sure anything is possible swap one from the PDP and try it.

    I would check the voltage at the solenoid with a dvm, if it's below 9.6 the EMM won't fire the injectors...if I remember correctly. Also all grounds must be shiney clean...... Do you have the software, and a good manual?

    Had that problem with my old 200 DI, took my starter to a local auto electric shop and had them rebuild it and that took care of the problem. You should be able to get it done for less than $100.00 if you have one close by.

    thanks bassmeister i dont have the software and i have a manual on order where can i get the software i am a motorcycle atv and pwc tech so i am sure i will be able to handle the diag i guess i was looking for a cheap way out by asking if anyone has seen this problem before. im thinking its a starter problem thanks again for eveyones help.

    Relay swap would be the quickest test. As far as the software try E-bay or craigs list. Worse case is getting it from BRP. Don't forget you need to make a diag cable too.

    thanks found the problem the bendix on the starter stuck and broke the top of the starter was not engaged with the flywheel properly flywheel looks ok but im going to have it cked out before i put a new starter on looks like i dodged a bullett thpugh thanks to eveyone for your help
