Mono v. Fluoro

Had never used Fluoro until recentley and only tried it to see if I could keep my line from bowing up on long cast as it does with mono. I had the same problem with the fluoro line (17 lb) as well with my t-rig plastics as I did with the mono. Is this because of the size of line I used and because of the larger size it wants to float back up? Other than the price I did not notice much difference, but with the $ there was a big difference. When I re-spool may just go back mono has it is easier to find and cheaper and Trielene and Stren can be found everywhere.

Am I doing something worng or will line want to float?

Drop down to 10lb test. I almost use fluoro exclusively now...

I use 8 on spin gear, 12 on sub-surface with no problems. will try the 12 on the t-rig line for sure then. think that might help?

which brand did you use? I know people will tell you this and that...but you get what you pay for with Flouro...

I use it mostly for cranking, but not all the time. I also have one rod rigged up with heavy flouro for flipping.

I use Izorline for some cranking, but for my deeper cranks its the new stuff...100% flouro I think is what its called.

Will switch the 17 lb on the T-rig rod to 12 should I keep the jig rod at 17 or go to 12 also?

As far as getting what you pay for, there's really not that many flouro producers/extruders in the world...maybe only 4 or 5 the last i heard. This means that other line companies buy from the source and repackage it with their name.

You might be surprised to know that the the Bass Pro Shops XPS packaged fluoro is a pretty good line.

Sunline is expensive because...well...it's packaged in Japan an us fisher people are willing to fork out a lot of $ for anything Japanese bass fishing related.

Have actually thought about the BPS XPS fluoro line and it is cheaper for sure than the new Trielene Pro Fluoro for sure. Should I keep the 17 on the jig rod or go to 12 also?

If you were fishing in Texas, Florida, California, etc I would stay with the heavier line. I would give the 12 a try...I think you'll like it. Google San Diego knot. Thats a really good knot for this line.

I like the vicious also. It seems a little softer then trilene or p-line.

I'm using the BPS XPS Fluoro and the P-Line Fluro now and really like both. The only other I've tried is Vanish transition a year or so ago, but I've heard (and from my experience) that stuff is doo-doo , so I don't have alot to compare too.

Flipping / Pitching I use 20-50 pound braid with 20 pound floro leader. The leader is six inches shorter than the rod to keep the knot out of the front guide when pitching.

I like floro for deep cranking large cranks.. The gold stuff is what is on my reel right now. 12#

Vanish has cost me lot of fish. I don't buy it anymore.

Jerkbaits have braid and 6 feet of gold mono.

Spinning rods for small cranks have 4-8 pound mono. Spinnerbaits use mono, typically 14 pound.

I have one old fiberglass spinning rod with 10# braid / leader on it for throwing lipless cranks. It 's a blast. Visitors to the boat use it a lot, it's indestructable and they can feel what's going on and cast it a mile.

I like pline, stren, trilene in no particular order.

I am also a believer in Floro.
I have 4 sizes I use and only use it on jig and worm setups, but I am going to look at using it on my deep divers

Flipping and C-rig rod 20 lb floro
worm/jig 15 lb
worm/finesse bait caster 12 lb
shakeyhead 8 lb

I only have the problem you are talking about in heavy wind and I upsize weight when that happens.
I have been using Seagar Invizx lately, but the Cablea's floro is also made by Seagar. I think it is the same as their carbon pro line. I plan to switch back to it on anything 12 lbs and over because of the cost savings.
