    Claytor Lake

Just wondering if anyone on here fishes this lake regularly. Looks like most of you guys are from the eastern part of the state. I usually go there about 2-3 times a month from spring-early winter. I hear alot of people say its a hard to fish/waste of time lake, but I really enjoy it there and have done really well in the last couple of years. Started to spend some time there learning the lake and its paid off.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else goes there?!

I fished it for the first time, this time last year. I loved the lake. We caught some nice Small mouth out of there... I wish it was a hair closer to me though...

That is one place I've been meaning to go also for sure. Been trying to get together with BPerdue21 or Fish TR19 to fish Moomaw also. Them to fellas are in the Covington area. Maybe we can hook up and go fishing, I am always good to help out with gas...

Claytor can be real tough sometimes, well alot of time. But when they are on, man the smallies will rip your arm off. Also as JonBoat posted, Lake MooMaw is a great lake to fish, you can really have some fun up there also. MooMaw is good all thru the spring into the night in the summer. My club is having three TX up there this year.

I've never fished Moomaw but have fished a couple small ponds there next to it at the electrical plant. I've had a few tough days at Claytor but for the past couple of years have almost always been able to catch atleast a limit. Got your IM jonboat14, I'll try to get up with ya, sometime this spring and we'll get us a trip lined out

i am down if yall want to get together on moomaw. i am down to go anywhere else if someone has an opening on their boat. moomaw is the only lake i know well enough to feel comfortable bringing my boat. in the next month and a half or so it is going to be prime time here. also moomaw is already back up to full level according to my brother. was 27 ft down at the start of november.

Haven't fished Claytor since I was a teenager. It was pretty dead then but I hear that it's doing really well now.

This summer I want to take a couple weekends and fish Moomaw and maybe Claytor too. Wife's family still lives at SML, so I should be able to find a good excuse to get over to that side again.

I live near Claytor and can say everything you hear is true.It can be great, especially in the spring.Have seen some large limits of smallmouths. The summer months can be terrible, like there is not a bass over 10 inches in the lake.If your planning a day trip,I would recommend coming up during the spring months and pray for some muddy water.
