2004 175 DI smoke and running louder

I have a 2004 evinrude 175 DI and this week it started smoking after a short run up the lake. No smoke at idle before taking off. Then when we come to a stop and at idle it is smoking. Not alot, but never smoked before. Also it seemed to sound louder than normal. Other than those two things it ran fine. I added seafoam before fueling and I changed to XD100 oil this year. should I be concerned? Closest dealer and shop is an hour plus drive. thanks

Could be a bad oil injector, plugged or restricted oil return line, plugged oil pressure regulator. If you don't have a service manual then it would be a good idea to let a trained tech check it out.

I've called the dealership I bought the boat through and they are swamped. 200 boats on the lot. They just told me to drop it off and they would get to it sometime. The plan is to drop it off next weekend. No more fishing this year!

would a bad oil injector or restricted oil flow cause my engine to run or sound louder than normal? The boat is still at the shop. They are to get to it this coming week. Or could I need rings? Never had a problem before now.

Tough call without seeing it or hearing it. Anything is possible would doubt rings though.

I bought a service manual and found where it said something about audible noise could be caused by some oil restriction of some sort. I hope the mechanic knows this, thats if they get around to looking at it! going into week 6. Water is getting hard and its time to winterize it! I've never changed the oil filter and the filter inside the oil tank. How often are they changed out, or cleaned?

this is what the tech has found so far. What he thinks is low oil pressure. (3 psi) He called BRP and talked with a tech there. He was told it maybe over oiling? My tech seems to think it maybe getting not enough since it was low pressure. Now he is confused. He told me yesterday that he was starting over and do more pressure checks. Week 8! The smoke was coming out the ports right below the cowling. Never seen smoke before and it doesn't do it till after a run down the lake. No smoke at start up and while idling before the run. Plus it sounded louder. My tech looked at the cylinders and said they were fine. Did a dyo and everything there looked good. Runs at normal temp. This all happen in one trip. All I've done is bought gas down in TN. before getting on the lake. Added seafoam and thats it. When I do get the boat back, it won't be till late March before I know anything. Being fixed or not?

I would think not enough oil if it was a restriction would lead to high pressure? Good luck and hope they get you figured out!

positive it's not steam. I can smell it and thats the first thing I thought when I first saw it. It's water vapor. I even asked my buddy who was fishing with me. Just in case I was losing it.. and he is positive it was the smell of oil. Here is what I found out today..............

Mechanic called me today while at work and told me he thinks he found the problem. Low oil in lift pump. Bad diaphram.
