91 FS with long warm up time

91 150 GLEIS. Engine takes several minutes [4-6] to heat up and drop off fast idle. Seams like its taking longer each time out. I replaced the water pump with no change. Has 7-10psi at idle 20psi upper rpm. Upgraded to white ceramic thermostates several years back. Visually checked them, looked ok. THANKS.

Look at the rubber seat for the preassure relief valve in the thermostat area, check for anything that could keep the valve from sealing. If it all looks OK you may have to replace the thermostat, relief valve assembly and spring. Use BRP parts. It could be the temp sensor, but I would bet on the other. Without the shift interupter switch it's hard to shift when the Quikstart is on, makes it a pain in the butt.

91 didn't have the shift interruptor switch those didn't come until the next years model run. Shoot the heads with an IR temp gun or thermo sticks. May be a bad temp switch on either head.

I did say "WITHOUT" the shift interupter switch, those of us with 1991 models know what I mean about shifting with Quikstart on.

Good idea about checking temps, if the temp is above 105* or maybe a little higher and the Quikstart is still on, it's probably the temp sensor. If it's running cold replace the thermo assembly. Quikstart is controlled by the temp sensor with two wires. If you can hold your hand on the heads it's not warming up.
