Question Exhaust seal ring or cavitation ring for trophy plus.Need help

We have a 225 vindicator on a 1996 Stratos 201 pro XL with a 24 trophy Plus and no matter what we do to the PVS plugs or the engine height it will not wind up at hole shot it just barely climbs out of the hole my guess is that there is Exhaust escaping from around the barrel of the prop because of It’s smaller diameter than the lower units diameter . You would think that it would blow out but I think instead of the gases being shot up onto the blades by the pvs plugs it is just running along the root of the blades and still causing it to hook up well. The over hub ventilation causes low back pressure inside the barrel that would prevent the Pvs plugs from blowing gasses up onto the blades. This is just my theory we have ordered a cavitation ring for the trophy plus. Any ideas of why the prop is hooking up so well? Thanks

It could also be starving for fuel.
My father gave me my first boat and it had the same issue. He got tired of messing with it.
I found if I popped the choke a few times it would get up on plane just fine and run fine once up on plane.
I realize yours prob doesn’t have a choke and may be fuel injected but just a thought you could look in to.

The blowout ring should help. That prop sounds small which should also make it jump out of the hole. I run a 26 trophy on my TR-196 / 200 opti.

I run a cavitation ring on my 23 pitch trophy plus because of the same reasons you describe. It really helps my holeshot. I got the aluminum one. Are you going aluminum or composite rubber-like material?

With a smaller barrel diameter ya should have a convergence ring and then go from there on pitch and step up

NOTE:The lower unit is not original to the 1996 engine. The lower unit on it now is from a 2000 225HP Johnson high output engine. I do not think the gearing is any different than what was on it. The lower unit does look more hydrodynamic though compared to the original one that came on that engine. Again I’m assuming that it is basically the same but I could be wrong. Any thoughts???

Three people full of gas every compartment filled to the brim of tackle I’m talking a tournament load Son. Tennessee river running upstream against the current mid 70 temperatures. We got 61 mph turning about 5800- 5900 RPM if I remember correctly But I do know it was not over winding and the prop seems to be good on top end and lifts the boat with our heavy load

5900 rpm with a 24 pitch and only 61 mph........ sluggish out the hole ...... perhaps the boat is water logged ?

The boat has been garage kept for years and is in good condition it’s probably a 90% boat
