    Looks like rebuild time

Found out today that my 1997 Johnson Venom 200 only has 20#'s of compression on #2. The rest of the cylinders are at 100#'s.

They wanted $4000 for a new powerhead that in itself made me decide to do a rebuild on my own. They said it looks like a ring has broken and gouged my cylinder wall.

I have already purchased a factory manual and a Seloc for a reference. Where is some of the best places to buy a rebuild kit? I know I will need gaskets, pistons, rings wrist pins, connecting arms and bearings. Should I look at replacing the crank as well?

Give me advice as to what brands to go with? Wiseco, all oem or Sierra??? I am new to the world of two strokes and am hoping for some good advice. Thanks to all!

More than likely the main bearings and rod bearings and rods will be ok. If it is just a ring broke, on the one cylinder, just repair that cylinder, and maybe freshen up the cylinders with a hone after you measure them, rings, gaskets and let her eat. JMO.....

ALL OEM PARTS. Make sure the #2 carb jet is two sizes bigger and you have the new drain plugs for the carb bowls....

    Bassmeister,

If my carb jets and drain original, could this be the cause of failure? Why is it solely the #2 carb that these changes need to be made on? thank you very much.

Yessir, the #2 carb jet 2 sizes larger helps cool that cylinder a little better, The drain plugs have a tit on the backside to keep the main jets from backing out causing a lean condition.

seems a main backing out would cause a rich condition? or maybe it cant draw fuel right with a way bigger hole?
