.Head scratcher here: Crusing along motor makes a different pitch. Slow down then it sounds like the hub was spent. Shut off motor, troll back to hill put it on trailer. Get home, run it on hose and sounds like the noise is coming from the upper part of the lower unit. Pull lower unit off, run motor, no noise anymore. I assume it’s the lower unit. Well before I tear lower unit apart, I do a compression check. 120 psi on all cylinders, 356hrs on motor. I’m positive it’s lower unit now, tear lower unit apart and can’t find anything wrong with it. I have another mechanic tell me maybe it’s the tuner. I’m not buying that, the motor ran so nice, came out the hole with a quickness. There is nothing that says it’s the tuner. Check hub, lower unit oil, compression. I guess I’ll put the torque master lower unit back together and think on it. Has anyone else had this issue?

I didn’t get any alarms on thee smart craft gauges. This literally happened 5 minutes after putting in, the water runs to fast from the dam to have any debris in it. I guess I’m going to pull the power head and check the tuner? Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have disassembled the entire lower unit. I have another lower unit I’m going to stick on it today. That will tell me if it is lower unit or motor. I’ll post back. The gear case and all internals were perfect.

Here is the verdict: I put another lower unit on same noise. I removed plastic cover, started it up real quick and I notice flywheel moving up and down some. I’m guessing it has a broke crank. I looked at the oil line and filter feeding top bearing and don’t look like much oil been going thru it. Then again it’s been sitting for a few weeks. I guess now I’ll look for a Re-man 250 power head. That’s were we are!

Let me know if you decide to repower and need to unload that lower.

    Thanks,
