Here in the Richmond Va area that is an easy job to get.... I f you try moving to this area let me know and may be able to help.....usually around $20.00 hr. to start but may be shift work. I have done the same work all my working life and do restaurant equipment now.

Like Mark said though we are about 4 years overstocked so you have to pick a number.......Me and Mark are the number holders and sometimes $$$$$ can get your name in front...lol

Scott, International Paper has their largest mill right here in Franklin. Formerly Union Camp Corp, there are five paper machines at this mill. Housing and other costs are much, much lower than in the Hampton Roads or Richmond areas. Countless fishing opportunities within an hours drive, everything from large reservoirs, to flat and tidal rivers.

What the heck does Greg know?!? The Defense Industry is much more exciting and much more glamorous than the Paper Industry! Heck, I get to work 70-80 hours a week for years on end, and get to sacrifice both family and fishing!

Re: thinking of moving south (MRSFIREBASSR)

I couldn't work at a paper mill just because of the smell He$$, as far as that goes, I don't even go near Franklin for that reason.

I guess that's the reason I don't drink beer, too many days on the Busch Gardens brewery tour as a child.

Re: thinking of moving south (Lea)

Yeah, The foul smell of the brewery is probably what kept me from drinking beer.

I doubt that the smell in Franklin is getting better, your probably getting used to it now. when I worked in the chemical industry it only took about 6 mths to get used to the smell in the plant (like fiberglass resin), how long have you lived near franklin??? and your just getting used to the smell, that ought to tell you how bad the smell is.

Re: thinking of moving south (sprint_lover)

Actually, there is much less smell now. The reason behind that is about ten years ago, Union Camp invented and began using a new bleaching technology where they went from a chlorine bleaching process for the pulp, to an ozone based bleaching process. The new process resulted in a much lower amount of sulphur being produced as a by-product, and that is why most have noticed a significant reduction in the traditional odor of the mill. They were also smart enough to patent the process when they went on line with it. International Paper bought the patent at the same time they bought the Franklin mill from Union Camp. The technology was what made that such a desireable mill, as now they can use that process at all of their facilities.
