    E-tec question

    Rusty/Seahorse i have a 05 50 E-tec in my shop that has a miss or a studder in the engine above 4800. It is mounted on a pontoon with a 13 pitch alu prop,top rpms are 5700.This motor was on a lund fishing boat with a tiller kit so when i used my diagnostic software to configure the motor to a remote i checked the engine monitoring screen and the tps voltage was bouncing around between.51 to.55,that can't be normal is it?Any advice you could offer would be appreciated. thanks

    You are a dealer right?

    Because this motor is under factory warranty you need to call BRP and talk with the Tech Support guys, they will have to ok any repairs.

    Have not had any of the E-Tec's back for anything and we sold a chit load of them.

    Same here we have at at least 2 dozen and they are all running like a top. B he way one commerical fisherman has over 1500 hrs on a 90 ETEC and we have done nothing but change plugs and gearlube every 300 hours and water pumps at every 600hrs. I caint wait to get one in with a running problem to figure out.

    Eric,

    That motor being on a pontoon boat, does it have the pontoon prop on it, or just a regular one? The Hydrus pontoon boat prop on some applications increases backpressure and can cause rough running. Refer to service seminar booklet. Also check if the throttle return spring "jumped" and that is also mentioned in the seminar notes.

    Perhaps the water reaching the prop at that speed is getting aerated and causing the prop to slip then grab thus shaking the motor like a misfire would.

    Seahorse,

    I checked the return spring on the throttle shaft and it has positive pressure on it. I ordered a 14x13 stainless prop when i installed the engine but i recieved a 13 3/8x13 aluminum triple cup "made in taiwan" prop in a BRP box with no other markings on it.Hydrus???The motor has a definate miss in it as you can hear it and see it in the systemcheck tak "needle bounces" thanks for your reply
