Happens with all manufactures.
Imagine the HB guys that recently bought Gen3 units to use the Mega 360 and now find out that the new Mega Live will require a Gen4 unit. Ouch
Sorry, YouTube made some changes and I couldn’t figure out how to get my videos on here. Sucks being tech challenged. Anyway here are some clips of new the new palettes except for blue ice I screwed that one up. So the first clip is original palette (orange) pre new update and the second clip is original palette (orange) post new update . Except for the pre new update clip all the other clips were shot on the same bank just going in different different hence the brighter returns on one side or the other.

The difference here is the plus units have always supported LVS. Why give customers perspective view but not the patch that allegedly makes it usable? I believe much older GPSMAP units got the update, just not the Echomap Plus.

Thanks for the update videos I’ll stay with the old version of orange it looks cleaner and fish show.The new one looks washed out but it could be contrast on 100.

Hmm, interesting, I didn’t notice that, everything was set to auto at least before the update was installed. Maybe there’s hope for the old palettes after all. Thanks for noticing that

Every two years humminbird release new units so no surprise here and even if you have to buy new units you can sell previous generation pretty quick . When I upgrade my solix units usually takes me one day to sell old once.

If memory serves, the Mega 360 came out last year with late fall delivery problems.
Many guys that bought new boats or upgraded the 360 did so this spring and may feel they only got 1 season before needing to upgrade again for the new mega live next spring.
Who knows, maybe they will have an update for he Gen3 users.
New Garmin units has me watching for a new LS system in the works or maybe something totally different.
Always exciting times in marine sonar.
yes mega 360 release date was schedule for december but because virus and big amount of orders everything get couple extra months like way less complicated garmin perspective mount which take extra time too. We know what is going on in this year .Yes if you want new mega live which doesn’t have release date yet you have to get newest unit which is normal with electronics those days . We have the same situation with new garmin newest transducers ( gt56uhd and gt36uhd ) which are only compatible with newest units . I am on the same page with you . Just bought 8616 two weeks ago and now can’t wait for gt56 uhd . Good times .I get it.

Of course maybe HB will release an external box for use with older units. Sort of like is needed for LS12 when used with older units or for LS32 with any unit.
I noticed on the list of the 21.00 update for GPSMAP 8xxx, does this mean that 84xx XSV are not compatible with GT36/GT56??

In any brand folks that purchased last years bargain or less expensive products really have no room to complain. My advice is just use what you have and be happy.
No. It doesn't mean that. The difference between the 84xx and 86xx is the 86xx has built-in maps. GT36/56 will work the same on the 84xx boxes as on the 86xx boxes.
