Question What do you think Bit this bass?

Our biggest fish a chunk missing out of it in a recent tourney, what do you think did it? This lake is known for its quality pike & musky as well

Whatever it was, it could NOT have been a musky because a VA Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries biologist told me musky do not eat bass. (he added "period" at the end for additional emphasis, for the record)

Based on my own observations in the wild, I disagree with his version of "facts".

Dunno what took a bite on that one, but it was either fast or super stealthy. Hungry, whatever it was!!

Many guys here in Michigan have musky rip the bass right off as they are fighting them to the boat

I’d guess not a fish. Fin doesn’t look damaged at all. To take that big of a chunk out, you’d think a toothy fish would’ve damaged the fin too.

That's definitely not from a pike or musky

I'd bet on Pike or Musky.

But here's a puzzler...years ago, I caught a LM around 4 lbs in Lk. Sammamish, no pike, no musky, but the top half of the tail was missing. I figure it could have been 1) River Otter, 2) GBH, or 3) Eagle. What's your best guess? I've always wondered.

Bass fishermen from Illinois always scream like little girls when this happens.

Musky certainly will eat a bass, but don't think it makes up a big part of their diet.

I'd guess that was from a bird though.

I have seen musky eat bass. However, that is not a musky or pike bite.

A chunk out of the side of the fish doesn't look like a bite from a fish. Maybe a prop, an eagle, or a heron, etc.

I was reeling in a small (9") bass at Pomme de Terre and noticed a musky behind it when it got about ten feet from the boat. When I was just about to swing him in he got off and that musky turned on a dime when it did. I woulda thrown him back, doubt he got that courtesy from the musky.
