1997 Evinrude Vindicator 200hp no fuel pressure-after low oil warning light

1997 200hp Vindicator was running fine, then low oil level light came about 1/2 mile from ramp. It would crank but not fire, I figured maybe some kind of fail safe for no oil. Filled up the oil tank - light is now off. Went to fish today, pumped up bulb started ran a minute stalled. Pumped up bulb again it would start right up then stall on hard accel to plane. If the bulb is pumped 4-5 times you can hear the fuel filling the carbs. Its starts but as soon as any throttle is applied stalls. I check the fuel lines, and filter to fuel pump no restrictions. I pulled the cover checked the diaphram no damage no crud, and pulled the electric fuel pump looks fine no trash. Is there some type of fail safe for the oil light that may keep the pump from engaging or just a bad pump?

Yes, it has an electric fuel pump. It just seems a coincidence that the oil resivoir was low causing the warning light to come on then this issue appears. Prior never had a single concern with this issue-other than typical complant it's cold hearted.

Low oil is a warning that comes on when about 1/4 tank of oil is left. It just lets you know to add more oil, that signal comes from the oil tank. No oil is something completely different that is on the VRO pump but would not cause a no start condition. Someone must have installed an electric fuel pump after words as that is not a factory item. You need to check for spark.

Engine has spark. It will run if you pump the bulb 4-5 times for two minutes or so depending on throttle applied. I ran it back to the ramp at about 1500 rpm. I do not believe the electric fuel pump is an ad on...I bought the boat from orignial owner. It looks like a factory harness to the pump.

Previously I thought it was a 98 engine like the boat, but today I saw the build date was 5/97. Could it have been a early 98?

Sounds like the pump is bad. The VRO runs off engine vacuum. Some folks add an aftermarket electric pump to help with fuel delivery issues. Not saying it isn't possible but I've yet to see a factory installed electric pump.

My apoligies...the pump is for both fuel and oil-mechanical. The electrical is just a four wire harness sensor I guess. Next question what usually fails? I looked at the diaphram it looks fine, brown oring is fine....just priced the pump is about 430.00....

Yes the four wire harness is what tells how much oil to deliver via tach pulses and vacuum pulses. Purple wire for power, grey for tach, tan for alarm and black for ground. Sounds like you are a victim of circumstance. You can find them cheaper at online parts retailers like boats.net.

Thanks loads guys i appreciate the offer and advice. I am 95% certain the vo2 pump is the concern. I dropped it off at a local dealer in Jensen Beach, Fl. this morning. If I was at home and not pressed for time I would tackle it, but limited tools and a place to work on it are a factor. Todd we have the same exact boat.
