Favorite drop shot bait?

My second favorite technique for fishing is a drop shot. I know a lot of guys that despise basically any kind of finesse fishing, but at least up here, if you don't have a strong finesse game then you're leaving a LOT of quality bites behind.

My favorite drop shot bait is the Magic Flick by Beast Coast (full disclosure, I AM sponsored by them, but the bait was my favorite well before the sponsorship. I got the sponsorship because of my love for this bait and constantly talking about it, so it was well earned). Ton of different colors, but one of the closest rainbow smelt colors I can get my hands on. Couple that perfect color with the perfect size, it's one of the best match-the-hatch baits I can find for fishing up here where smelt are so prevalent in our glacial lakes. I also don't have to work the bait much at all to get some action out of it.

A very close second though is a 5" Reaction Innovations Flirt Worm, or same size Robo worm. If they're not biting the Magic Flick, it's usually because they want a bigger offering. Still trying to convince Beast Coast to make a 5" version of the Flick...

What's your favorite drop shot bait?

Had a great day on my favorite lake in the New Hampshire Lakes region with just the Magic Flick shortly before I left for a week on the St Lawrence River / Lake Ontario. The Flick put a blimp in the boat during that trip too!

The berkley pin tail minnow I have really liked to use for the fact that it will sit there and twitch without moving it much at all. The dream shot and half shell are others that I like to use. Full disclosure I haven't use the max scent baits which are gods gift to bass fishing

Reign's Bubbling Shaker has been awesome for me, from deep Smallmouth to shallow Largemouth. Mueller's Magic is my #1 color and have also had some luck with good old Green Pumpkin.

Curious if you still us the "POOR BOYS" version or switched to "Lurecraft"? The "POOR BOYS" has gone to trash in my opinion as I believe ownership had changed recently. Really wish I knew that before placing a 400$ order last spring. Their (POOR BOYS) quality control and material went to chit!!!

I have a gallon bag of different bags of baits I use but if I had to choose one for each bass species.

Smallmouth: Jackall cross tail Shad

My three favorites are a Roboworm in Aaron's Magic, Missile Bomb Shot and a 3" Berkley Minnow in Smelt (that one works great in very cold water right after ice out or ice up)

Are y’all hooking the Minnow looking baits weedless?

There are a lot of drop shot baits that look nearly identical and probably work just as well, but I’ve caught more fish on the Shad Shape Worm than anything else. To answer the question above, nose hooked. I do like the Trick Shotz, but a jumping smallmouth can really tie a knot in that Elaztech bait.

If around some vegetation I might hook the minnow weedless where the point is just about through the bait, but for the most part I fish them nose hooked, or use a Neko hook and run the shank through the bait a bit if they don't seem to be biting it that well.
