1990 Johnson GT150 Won't start after Long Run

My 4 year old and I went out on the boat on a 15 mile run just enjoying the weather. We stopped at the Marina to get a drink and the thing wouldn't start. When i turn the key nothing. Cowl off, tapping starter with channel locks, not even so much as a click when the key is turned at same time. All other electronics work.

I told the kind Gentleman that returned us to our truck that it would prolly start when we got home. My sarcasm was honest though because upon our return, she turned right over.

I checked the bendix on the starter, turned the flywheel, tightened all wires on the switch, battery, terminals and connections, wires on and near starter had a wrench on them, but I was unable to find a fuse on motor or under dash. The guy that gave us a lift was helping too. When I turned the key my voltage didn't even drop. the gauge is on the starter battery. Nothing, no ticks, audible clicks, or even a bump. It was like there was no battery in the boat.

when we got home i slapped the ears on and bumped the key. Bump it went. Water on and a tight priming bulb yielded an immediate vroom and left me in a state of disbelief. How can I trust this motor? My companion is most always my youngan who loves the bass boat.

    Thanks for the replies.

I would check and clean all electrical connections.
    Regards,
If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

If you look on the left side of the motor near the solenoid you will see a red wire that has a small fuse holder on it. That is the main motor fuse it is only about 3/8" long and is 20 amps. That provides power to the motor. All other electronics work off the boat's harness and not the motors. You may not have had the shifter/throttle completly in neutral and that is why the motor wouldn't hit a lick. There is a neutral safety switch in the control box so the motor will not start in gear. I would expect that was the problem.

All connections are clean. ChampioNman, I have a hot foot and teletrim so the gear shifter was never touched. This however was overlooked. I post rarely because you have answered the majority of my questions in one form or another. Thanks.
