03 225 h.o. No Oil Warning buzzer / Safe Mode problem

    03 225 h.o. No Oil Alarm Problems..............
I have had this motor since 04 and never had any problems with it. This spring I have had the no oil alarm start to come on. Prior to my first outing I added aprox. 1 gallon on the standard evinrude Sythetic oil to the resorvoir. This is the first time in many years I used a different than the xd50 or xd 100 sythetic oil. After the alarm came on and the motor went into the limp mode. I search online for a fault code or fix and found folks stating to check for loose or crack oil lines. I found one line coming from the output side of the oil primer bulb to be slightly loose, I cut back a half inch of line and replaced the factory stainless clamp with a worm drive clamp and the connection is tight once again. I then tried to water test the boat and it ran fine for the first 10 minutes then the alarm came on again. I made a appointment with the marina and had them run the pc to check and erase any hard codes which they did. The tech also removed and bled the oil system and verified the pulse oil line. The tech stated that he was using the latest software to check the engine and it appeared it was getting and using oil. The tech stated that he did not see any thing out of order and to try running it to see if would reappear. I ran the motor for a few minutes and the alarm came back.I am not sure what to do next... I am temted to remove all of the oil from the resvoir and replace with the xd oil which visualy appears to be thinner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dave

sounds like a computer problem to me. I have seen this twice on the same E-tec. It was not exactly the same as your problem but it would throw the no oil alarm but would not go into safe mode. It was getting oil and it turns out the EMM had an issue.

    Re: (Hotasx)

There is no standard Evinrude synthetic oil. There is XD-50 which is a synthetic blend and XD-100 which is a full synthetic. The xd-100 is the best all around oil for your motor. I don't know which marina you went to but in your area Saunders Boat Livery in Southwick is one of the best around. May want to give them a call or if you went there have them lake test the boat for you.

My '05 had some similar issues a couple years ago. Turns out the oil lift pump was failing. It would run fine, then throw the alarm and go into limp mode. You could wait a few then all would appear normal. Luckily I got this addressed sooner rather than later.

Re: 03 225 h.o. No Oil Alarm Problems..............
The motor is fixed thanks to everyones help and suggestions. After replacing some parts, primer bulb , oil lift pump, clamps and the winning ticket was the oil pressure sensor. I missed the oily plug connection until after installing the new oil lift pump but decided to leave the new pump in place even after my marina stated they would refund the price only due to the motor beeing a 03 thought it would not hurt it. So if anyone else starts having no oil warning in their motor I would remove the (correct fitting lol ) for the sensor and verify it is free of any containminents like the oil it is sensing as this will cause this false alarm. Thanks again for everyones help on this problem. I am off to Lake Champlain to seek out some Monster Largemouth.
