This one was special, he literally helped me get through the toughest time in my life with loosing my mom to cancer when she was in her 50's and an ugly divorce at the same time. Muggsy could stare into my soul. I guess I'm just a big old 225 lb wuss, but I am literally sick to my stomach and am at a loss as to how to cope with it. Everyone says get another one, but unless they can guarantee he outlives me, there is no way on earth I would go through this again. Just reaching out to a great bunch of guys for support. No matter which side we are on it seems we all come together when we need to. Thanks, Chris

You are in my prayers my friend. They are part of the family and bring so much joy and unconditional love we learn from them.

It’s tough to lose them, no doubt. There is just something special to me about dogs, I’ve hung with them since I was about 5. My thoughts are with you, hang in there.

I lost my best friend Jet (Great Dane) to bone cancer several years ago. He was only seven years old and still a big goof. He helped me thru a divorce and the separation from my kids. I cried like a baby. I feel your pain. Some dogs are just special and it's heart-breaking when we have to say goodbye. A new pup will help.

I have lost a few, never looked at it in this perspective.

I have only had the vet put down one dog, as I was holding her. Gave her the shot, removed the rubber band and—————-nothing.
Vet said “ I have to get another syringe load”. My dog climbed up the front of me and wrapped her legs around my neck. As soon as the second shot was administrated, she went limp slid down the front of me and her eyes were locked on to mine until she closed them. Always a tough deal.

Definitely tough times. They can get into your heart and sole and really don't as much in return.

Sorry for your loss. Just try and remember all those great times and as much as he helped you...you helped him even more.

Don't worry about being a big cry baby. I got some fluid built up in my eyes just reading your post. I have had to have two boxers that ive gone through this. It hurts so bad mostly because many of us have been down that same road. And sometimes that phrase "man's best friend" hits us hard. They are by far more loyal, and loving unconditionally than most humans. And how ironic is that our current year and half old boxer is named Mugsy....

I'm sorry for your loss. We lost our little Daisy last July, and she is buried out back. I don't think a day goes by that we don't think about her. We did get another pup, named Dolly, that reminds us a lot of Daisy and frankly I don't know what we would have done without her. Daisy was that special dog that we will never forget but we love our new pup and she will be special too. Darn it, I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

We felt the same way when we lost our dog.. we got rid of everything thinking that was it but the pain of losing him soon passed and the emptiness of not having one in your life takes over.. give it a while and then decide.
