I purchased a 1998 tr-17 a month or so ago and noticed when the low oil light came on there was no beep at all. I grounded the heat sensor on the back of the motor and the overheat light came on(with no beep or anything)..... I bought a new horn thinking that was it, but dident change a thing. The only time I hear a been is when I turn the key to the on position. The lights light up but the horn makes no noise. I think it might be a ground wire but not sure. Any ideas?
Ask your local BRP dealer if they could make a copy of the wiring schematic for you. You'll need a multi meter to check all the connections and wiring from the wiring harness at the motor back to the controls and gauge.
The horn is triggered by the SystemCheck gauge so it's possible the gauge or the wiring is bad.
The horn will not sound when a sensor is shorted to ground unless the motor is running.
